Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent, the Maintenance Specialist-Electrician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of all electrical motors, machines, fixtures, and wiring or any electrical extensions as required by the college. The Maintenance Specialist-Electrician provides assistance in chiller maintenance, plumbing and general maintenance throughout the Plant as required. Safely and accurately execute plans of electrical wiring for well-functioning lighting, intercom and other electrical systems. This position may be assigned or responsible for other general maintenance, construction, or physical plant responsibilities such as grounds or custodial services as needed by the College.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Install, maintain and repair electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems.

2. Perform Complete Maintenance and Repairs on Electrical Appliances (Weekly) Includes fans, buffers, drills, vacuum cleaners, extension cords. Disassemble.

3. Perform general electrical maintenance and circuit breaker corrective maintenance

4. Inspect for problem, check with electronic motor or test light. Order parts necessary to make repairs. Make repairs and reassemble.

5. Inspect transformers and circuit breakers and other electrical components, troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate of testing devices and repair and replace equipment, electrical wiring, or fixtures.

6. Perform Maintenance and Repair on Electric Motors: Remove conductors from motor. Remove motor from mounting frame. Disassemble motor. Clean, replace bearings or bushings or other parts. Reassemble and install. Maintain Magnetic Switches (Motor Contactors or Lighting Relays), remove covers, check voltage, check continuity. Disassemble, replace bad parts. Reassemble and place back in circuit.

7. Maintain Circuit Breaker: Check load on circuit breaker using amp meter. Disconnect conductors from breaker, install new breaker, connect conductors, replace cover on breaker panel.

8. Maintain P.A. System: Check standby batteries. Check acid level, add battery water if needed. Clean top of batteries.

9. Maintain Emergency Lighting: Check wet cell batteries. Add fluid if needed. Clean battery. Replace bad batteries. Replace bad jell cell batteries as needed.

10. Operation and Maintenance on Fire Alarm System.

11. Remodeling Projects: Shut down alarm system in area that is being remodeled Remove smoke and heat detectors Install new conduit and wiring for detectors Install new detectors and activate alarm circuit

12. Clean Detectors: Shut down alarm system, clean faulty detectors Activate alarm circuit Maintain Transformer Vault.

13. Clean transformer vault using cleaning equipment. Check voltage and amperage on secondary side of transformer and record.

14. Assists with General Maintenance as assigned: assist the plumbing and heating specialist with mechanical or electrical problems. Assist the refrigeration and air conditioning mechanic with mechanical or electrical problems.

15. Assist in programming and maintaining Climate Control System/HVAC systems, perform complete maintenance and repair including changing motors, belts and filters, greasing motors and pulleys, bleeding air from the system and adjusting the fresh-air intake, adjust individual room temperatures and assist in operating the Building Automation System.

16. Supervise assigned workers: Work with and closely supervise workers, including student workers, assigned to work with the person in this position.

17. Coordinate electrical installation on remodeling projects: Meet with department head to review plans. Make up estimate on materials and cost for projects. Order materials for projects. Proceed with electrical installation.

18. Maintain Inventory on Electrical Equipment and Materials: Check stock. Order materials.

19. Assist in Budget Preparation: Budget for electrical needs.

20. Inspect Electrical Work while in process and upon completion.

21. Monitor and work of contractors. Review the operation of equipment installed by contractors.

22. Maintain electronic key-lock/access systems.

23. Delegate work orders to assigned workers. Inspect electrical work being done by assigned staff or student workers.

24. Maintain Work Orders and Time Sheets on a daily basis.

25. Change Light Bulbs/Repair Light Fixtures: Change light bulbs or repair light fixtures in gymnasium, tennis courts, street lights, security lights, and racquetball courts. Use scaffold or step ladder for interior lights. Use extended scaffold on forklift or bucket truck for exterior lights. Remove shade or open fixture, change bulb or repair light fixture.

26. Operate Equipment and Hand Tools: Responsible for safe operation of hand tools, equipment while performing various essential functions of the position. This includes pliers, dikes, screwdrivers, nut drivers, pipe wrenches, socket wrenches, vise grips, hammers, crescent wrench, pipe threader, pipe cutter, power vise threaders, electric drills, hammer drills, torch, flaring tool, levels, gasket cutter, hacksaw, bearing puller, reciprocating saw, wet-dry vacuum cleaners, tin-working tools, volt meters, ohm meters, amp meters, circuit bracer, fluorescent tube and ballast tester, watt/voh meter recorder, a/c amp recorder, outlet tester, tick tracer, pedestal buffer and grinder, drill press.

27. Communicate with supervisors and staff in a professional and accurate manner on a daily basis.

28. Read, review, understand, interpret and utilize blueprints and other schematic diagrams. Must be able to construct or remodel according to prepared plans.

Minimum Qualifications

1. High school graduate or GED.

2. Minimum of four (4) years related work experience in the electrical field, or minimum of three (3) years' related work experience with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Electrical Technology.

3. Currently hold an Electrical Journeyman's License.

Desired Qualifications

1. Experience in Commercial wiring.

2. Experience operating a Building Automation System.

3. Experience working from a blueprint start to finish of Construction Projects of various sizes.

Salary

Range $22.29/hr. - $28.77/hr.
