Primary Function of Position:

This highly skilled and emotionally intelligent engineering leader will provide project and technical leadership to a talented manufacturing engineering team. They will hire, mentor, and develop engineers to support the Ion Peripheral Vision Probe. The team is responsible for ongoing manufacturing support, continuous improvement, and capacity expansion (including line transfers to Mexico). Through healthy collaborations with Production, Quality, and Engineering, this leader will enable supply continuity of the Vision Probe while maintaining compliance with our quality system.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain, improve, duplicate, and transfer mid-volume manufacturing lines for flexible endoscopes
  • Enable production to hit output targets while maintaining compliance with the quality system
  • Own and maintain product BOMs, travelers, work instructions, and equipment, including corrective action closure, discrepant material disposition, and Engineering Change Order (ECO) implementation
  • Partner with Quality to maintain process risk control documents, including Process FMEA, Manufacturing Line Specifications, Equipment Specifications, and Equipment Qualifications (i.e. DQ/IQ/OQ/PQ/PPQ)
  • Mentor, train, and guide professional development for individual team members, including annual review writing and financial incentive recommendations
  • Provide technical support for failure analysis and root cause investigation of product failures
  • Lead projects ranging from product to business process improvements, including planning, staffing, budgeting, and tracking performance
  • Manage and allocate team resources over multiple projects, including collaboration with other teams and sharing responsibilities as needed
  • Support design reviews in accordance with product development procedures
  • Identify, prioritize, and resource continuous improvement projects that align with business priorities
  • Provide resource estimates for long term business planning and organizational growth
  • Partner with Finance, Production, and Purchasing to manage and improve product cost including labor, material, scrap, and overhead
Skill/Job Requirements:

  • Minimum B.S. degree in engineering discipline, M.S. preferred
  • Prior responsibility for validation/verification of processes, equipment and products
  • Proven track record of leading teams through challenging problems
  • Strong organizational skills and proven ability to work on several fast-paced projects simultaneously
  • Prior experience with managing product and process changes
  • Proven ability to build healthy relationships with cross-functional peers
  • Effective and professional communication skills; ability to adjust communication style to a diverse audience, including individual contributors and leaders in technical and non-technical roles
  • Prior experience with Design Control processes for medical devices is a plus
  • Past experience in ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment is a plus
  • Working knowledge of vision and catheter manufacturing processes is a plus (e.g. vision testing, fiber optic assembly, thermal bonding, braiding, adhesives, plastic injection molding, extruding)
