Department Overview

The GBH Development Division includes major annual giving, restricted giving, gift planning & endowment, foundation development, prospect research, development operations, special events and board relations. The division is responsible for raising funds from those who can support at a significant level for annual operating, capital and directed gifts and the endowment. It is also responsible for the management and development of GBHs governing and ambassadorial boards.

Job Overview

Reporting to the Chief of Staff and Senior Director of Board Relations, the Manager of Board Relations will manage the activities/functions of the Board of Advisors, including the management and production of Board of Advisor meetings; engagement and stewardship of the members of the Board of Advisors and Advisors Council; management of Advisor-related committees, including the Advisor nominating process; development of written communications, agendas, talking points; donor/board member cultivation and stewardship.

This position works closely with board members staff within the Development Division and across the organization, including the senior development staff and fundraising colleagues, content units, and communication teams. The diverse functions of this position require the ability to juggle competing priorities, initiative, proactive problem-solving and sound decision-making with the goal of achieving clear communication, efficient office operations and procedures, and effective management of multiple projects. This position will be called upon to manage board-related committees and events. Flexibility, discretion and confidentiality, and a solutions-based approach to addressing problems are required.

GBH is seeking a highly detailed, professional who thrives as a self-starter and problem solver. They must be an excellent communicator, have the ability to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team, have superior interpersonal skills, sound independent judgment and discretion, and computer savvy.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Chief of Staff and Senior Director of Board Relations and the Chair of the Board of Advisors, manage and steward the Board of Advisors and related committees.
  • Manage and oversee logistics for Board of Advisors meetings and Advisor-related committees, including identifying program content, developing agendas and talking points; managing all operational and audiovisual aspects of meetings; understanding budgeted resources and staying within allowances.
  • Develop and manage ongoing communications with the Advisor leadership, Board of Advisors, Advisor-related committees.
  • Manage and maintain the systems for the Board of Advisors nominating processes.
  • Manage orientation process for new Board of Advisor members.
  • Plan and manage smaller briefings of the Board.
  • Respond to personal requests made by Board members.

Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven record of active, on-site problem solving that is expected in the management of board, committee, and events work.
  • Proven project management experience.
  • Ability to nurture relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, CRM systems, with a solution-oriented approach to technology.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3-5 years experience in nonprofit development or related experience.
  • Prior experience and direct interaction with nonprofit or for-profit boards, donors, senior-level management, and customer service orientation, highly desired.
