Orrick currently has an exciting opportunity in our New York or San Francisco office for a Marketing Specialist who is ready to be challenged and build a career within an Am Law Top 100 law firm. 

What Will You Do?  In this role, you will support broad business development efforts for Litigation groups firmwide with a focus on the White Collar, Investigations, Securities Litigation and Compliance practice group. The primary role is to assist assigned practice group lawyers and marketing colleagues with the efficient, effective and integrated execution of strategic activities that support Orrick's firm wide business development goals including:

  • At the direction of the Senior Manager, contribute to, manage, track or drive marketing and business development initiatives for the practice group and certain cross-practice group initiatives, such as:
    • Practice group business development projects 
    • Survey and directory submissions, including Chambers and Legal500
    • Client development initiatives or projects
    • Market research and competitive intelligence for prospective and current clients 
    • Market positioning programs, including advertising, events and sponsorships 
    • Pitches, proposals and responses to RFPs, ensuring pitch and proposals books are current 
    • Fact sheets, brochures and other collateral materials 
    • Experience database 
    • Thought Leadership, including client alerts, blogs and other social networking channels 
    • Lawyer biographies
  • Assist with enhancing the visibility of the attorneys and the firm in local, regional, global and industry platforms, including speaking engagements, writing opportunities and other brand-building initiatives.
  • Support and drive projects in association with the communications and public relations teams to create media opportunities.
  • Liaise with and collaborate with various firm departments like Research, Document Services, Special Projects, IT, Reports, Finance and others for efficient delivery of work product, solutions and strategic reporting in support of complex institutional projects.  

At the direction of the Senior Manager, you would do the following:

  • Provide strong assistance with creating, editing and maintaining collateral and market-facing materials
  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and follow-up of new business or cross-marketing opportunities, including supporting Litigation key client teams
  • Work with the creative team and assist in the development of content and design for various sector collateral material, client invitations, etc.
  • Work with communications team to draft press releases and content
  • Conduct market research on specified industries, markets, targeted opportunities, sponsorships, events and marketing & business development topics
  • Maintain (with support of automated systems and firm tools) internal Litigation resources
  • You will also assist with planning and executing client seminars and sponsorships, including coordinating with vendors and conference organizers and conducting planning and debrief calls with attorneys to improve event participation and analyze return on investment, manage special projects for the Litigation sector and track group initiatives, work with Litigation marketing team and lawyers to draft strategic plans and perform other marketing and business development related responsibilities and projects as necessary.

You will need four or more years of law firm experience. You must be detail-oriented, with strong writing and editing abilities and excellent communication (both oral and written) and follow-up skills. You will also need to be able to perform effectively in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. Also essential is the ability to multi-task and prioritize. If you have working knowledge of legal terms and concepts, that is a plus.

Do you Possess the Following?

  • Four-year degree in marketing, business, communications, English or other related discipline preferred. Applicants may be required to submit writing samples.
  • Excellent computer skills necessary; high proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Ability to become proficient in the use of the following marketing systems and tools: Interaction / Who Knows Who (CRM Software); Orrick’s Biography Tool; Orrick’s Portal and Relevant Marketing Resources, such as Client-Matter and Deals Databases (Oex/Foundation); Enterprise Search; eReports; Tikit (Broadcast Email and Event Registrations suite); and AdobePro/Nuance PDF.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and a high level of attention to detail.
  • Accepts accountability and effectively communicates project status and adheres to deadlines. 
  • Action-oriented, intellectually sharp, capable and agile. 
  • Highly productive and flexible with ability to handle fast-paced, high-demand environment. 
  • Maintains a "can-do" attitude and takes appropriate initiative. 
  • Possesses strong organization skills and is able to coordinate multiple projects while prioritizing work assignments. 
  • Strong communications skills and commitment to teamwork. 
  • Builds rapport well amongst colleagues at all levels of the firm and is a good listener.
