As a member of the R&D Mechanical Engineering group the individual selected for this role will assist in the design of diabetes related products such as insulin pumps, glucose sensors, and related accessories. Under guidance, the mechanical design engineer will support the ideation, design, development and documentation of diabetes products.

A Day in the Life

The person filling this role will become part of a dynamic and fast paced R&D group with a strong history of successful product development. They will have the opportunity to interface with the end customer, as well as various functional groups within the diabetes business unit.

The ideal candidate for this position has an engineering mindset and enjoys working in a fast-paced environment on new product design. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Grow and maintain technical knowledge current with advancing technology related to product development of diabetes devices and accessories.
  
• Create and release engineering drawings.
  
• Process engineering change orders.
  
• Help develop specifications, test methodologies, and test equipment to evaluate design concepts.
  
• Complete testing and analysis to ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications, regulatory requirements, and international standards.
  
• Provide technical feasibility assessments.
  
• Collaborate with other departments within Medtronic on development projects.
  
• Present technical findings or project status to cross functional teams through meeting minutes, design reviews, presentations and other means of communication.
  
• Under guidance, design components to be manufactured via plastic injection molding, stamping, machining, extrusion, and related processes. Work with manufacturing to consider high volume assembly processes in design concepts.
  
• May travel to vendor locations as needed to help ensure programs meeting deadlines and troubleshoot issues.
  

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree required
  
• 0 years of experience required
  

Nice to Have

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or Bio-engineer
  
• 
  
• Experience with 3D modeling software, i.e. SolidWorks, Creo and/or ProEngineer
  
• Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and methodologies
  
• Ability to interpret technical drawings
  
• Experience creating technical drawings and creating Bill of Materials
  
• Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) training
  
• Strong interpersonal skills
  
• High degree of initiative and self-motivation
  
• Effective problem-solving skills
  
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
