I. Primary Function

The Medical Assistant II position serves as a liaison between the patient and the physician and is responsible for coordinating patient flow in the ambulatory setting. This position provides assistance that includes, but is not limited to, data collection for patient intake, preparing patient for provider visit, and assisting provider during basic procedures. The MA II may be required to perform appointment check-in, check-out, and scheduling, in addition to various clinical tasks which will be assigned to them by their manager.

II. Essential Functions

  • Prepares exam rooms, clinic equipment, and computer for patient visit; maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Performs and documents patient communication and intake information (height, weight, head and abdominal circumference, blood pressure, vision and hearing screening, pulse oximetry) accurately and appropriately.
  • Conducts Family Education Assessment, pain question, and medication reconciliation.
  • Documents reason for visit, chief complaint, and enters orders as appropriate.
  • Prepares patient for and assists providers with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Performs point of care testing.
  • Answers patient questions and phone calls and coordinates with internal and external ancillary departments.
  • Performs duties within the legal (including federal and state statutes, regulations, opinions, and rulings) and ethical boundaries.
  • Performs administrative and clinical tasks as assigned by supervisor/manager.

  • Requirements:
    • High School Diploma
    • Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
    • Current American Heart Associations BLS certification
    • Medical Assistant Certification: acceptable certifications are Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
    • 1-3 years of job related experience

    Monday through Friday rotating hours.
