KGUN, the E.W. Scripps Company ABC affiliate in Tucson, Arizona is looking for a positive, proactive, collaborative, and highly engaged Morning Anchor / Multimedia Journalist (MMJ) to join our team.

We are looking for a storyteller who will help make our communities stronger and the world around us better. The Morning Anchor / MMJ will be responsible for hosting the morning newscasts; as well as researching, writing, capturing visual content, and editing stories for multiple platforms.

Famous for its dramatic beauty, the Sonoran Desert covers the Tucson area with spectacular cacti including the giant saguaro, a symbol of the American Southwest. But dont be fooled by the term desert because mountain ranges in all directions offer scenic drives, and even snow skiing. In the winter you can go for a hike in the valley, then drive up to Mt. Lemmon and enjoy the slopes. Tucsons legendary year-round sunshine and saguaro-and-sunset landscape have romanced visitors for decades.

WHAT YOULL DO:

  • Anchors the morning newscasts.

    • Reports live on location from various news events.

    • Gathers and writes news content for multiple platforms, including posting stories on the Internet

  • Researches and develops news stories.

    • Initiates or receives assignments, evaluating news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.

    • Reports, writes, captures quality visual content, editing and producing stories for multiple platforms on deadline, to include broadcast, Internet, and digital channels.

    • Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.

    • Organizes material, determines slant or emphasis, and writes story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.

    • Shoots video and still photos to illustrate stories.

    • Edits, or assists in editing, videos for all multimedia platforms.

    • Appears on television programs when conducting taped interviews or narration.

    • Gives live reports from site of event or mobile broadcast unit.

    • Works cooperatively with photographers assigned to story, if one is assigned.

  • Assists and collaborates with news producers in preparing newscasts.

  • Assists and collaborates with digital and online staff in preparing multimedia stories.

  • Performs various community service activities for KGUN, including performing as master of ceremonies for public service events and as host/hostess for station events

  • Periodically drives personal or company vehicles to cover various assignments or events.

WHAT YOULL NEED:

  • BS/BA in Broadcast Journalism or a related degree, or equivalent years of experience.

  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience.

WHAT YOULL BRING:

  • Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.

  • Videography and non-linear editing experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of broadcast quality camera equipment.

  • Edit video on Final Cut editing systems, or similar equipment.

  • Strong broadcast and AP style writing skills.

  • Proficient at posting content to various websites.

  • Ability to work independently and self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment by remaining calm under pressure

  • Ability to collaborate successfully in a team environment and make decisions quickly during any type of coverage.
