  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related NDT discipline AND current certification with ASNT/NAS 410 or other recognized NDT accreditation in L3 certification (country dependent), will accept Four plus years (4 ) years of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment AND ASNT/NAS 410 or other recognized NDT accreditation in L3 certification (country dependent) in lieu of degree.

OR
  • A ssociate's degree in NDT (specifically defined to NDT) plus two plus years (2 ) of relevant work experience in a manufacturing environment AND ASNT/NAS 410 or other recognized NDT accreditation in L3 certification (country dependent).
    • Relevant work experience is determined and documented by the Level 3 responsible (Responsible Level 3) for this certification program
  • Proficient Computer Skills required; Advanced skills can be acquired with progression
  • Understanding of Regulatory requirements

Preferred Qualifications
  • Level 3 Certification in two methods used by Howmet highly desirable (RT-PT-UT-VT-Grain)
  • Previous NDT experience in investment castings highly desirable
  • Additional education, SQE, Six Sigma, APQP, SPC statistical management training is a plus.
  • NDT Auditing Experience preferred utilizing NADCAP checklists.
  • For the Non- English locations, good level of English preferred (Writing, Reading, and Speaking)

Physical Demands :
  • The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally required to stand or walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus - subject to NAS 410 eye examination requirements and Company eye exam J1 at not less than 14" or equivalent.
  • This position requires travel by car or plane, and correspondingly duties may be performed in various settings.

The NDT Level 3 Technical Lead provides leadership, guidance, and technical support to the NDT organization by leading process improvement and operational excellence across all NDT methods. This includes Visual, Radiography, Fluorescent Penetrant, Ultrasonic, and Grain Inspections. This shall be accomplished through professionalism, dedication, experience and knowledge in NDT requirements and technology by driving adherence to disciplined systems and robust processes, with a focus on standardization of best practices. The NDT Level 3 Technical Lead will be part of a team environment where development and sustainability of the overall process is crucial, including seeking out and embracing new NDT technologies. Position can be based out of Whitehall, MI or any US Howmet Engines location.

Essential Job Functions

  • Establish and execute training and certification program for all NDT personnel under the companies approved Written Practice. Maintain certification records in accordance with industry and business requirements.
  • Assure all training material is current and in compliance with all customer requirements and current industry standards.
  • Establish a presence as the NDT expert inspector, trainer, auditor, and customer advocate in respective NDT discipline to assure consistent quality and specification compliance.
  • Continuous validation regarding the effectiveness of the NDT program, systems and personnel skills via defined audits and production iteration activities
  • Single Point Accountable (SPA) for contract review on NDT customer and industry requirements
  • Assume direct leadership for all NDT methodologies for specific Howmet plants as defined by the Responsible Level 3.
  • Mentor Level 3 successor, coach NDT personnel to advance within the NDT discipline. Challenge and motivate through demonstrated leadership.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Accept direct leadership role for multiple Howmet sites driving process management across all NDT methodologies used within those plants.
  • Continuously assess health of the business systems against customer and/or industry standards through an efficient and effective NDT internal audit/corrective and preventative action management system.
  • Lead team and develop relationships, both internally and externally, to achieve the necessary engagement, influence, and customer connections (both internal and external).
  • Lead with energy by consistently identifying and overcoming challenges and possessing a highly developed quantitative, as well as qualitative skill.
  • Leader & teacher in Problem Solving & Preventive Corrective Action Principles - Proactive approach (foresee problems rather than reacting after the event)
  • Lead the implementation of new NDT technology within respective location, provide information to all plants by data sharing and out-reaching collaboration.
  • Strong ability to multi-task in a demanding environment and to work independently with little to no guidance
  • Demonstrated business acumen (financials, linkage of quality/NDT impact to financials, A3 thinking)
  • Possess practical understanding of manufacturing processes in order to analyze problems, communicate effectively and facilitate problem solving activities objectively and independently.
  • Achieve Level 3 in multiple NDT methods. This could include Visual, Radiography, Fluorescent Penetrant, Ultrasonic, and Grain Inspections as directed by the Responsible Level 3.

Job Competencies
  • Expert in understanding of non-destructive validation methodology (Visual, Film and Non-Film Radiography, Penetrant, Ultrasonic, and Grain inspection.)
  • Strong experience and proficiency in understanding NADCAP requirements along with knowledge in Statistical Tools and Techniques, APQP and Measurement System Analysis and application with NDT preferred.
  • Strong experience in coordinating, developing, and executing corrective / preventative /systemic action and process improvement activities.
  • Drive standardized continuous improvement metrics across the NDT disciplines
  • Least cost application of customer specs/drawings (no over-processing)
  • Blueprint Reading /customer requirements flow-down
  • Customer interface and understanding/deployment of customer requirements
  • Ability to communicate & present effectively & efficiently (written, verbal and non-verbal) with all levels within organization, internal & external customers
  • Ability to read and react to verbal and non-verbal communication while maintaining complete professionalism.
