Job Summary:

The 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson builds and maintains combat ready expeditionary forces necessary to fight and win in complex environments as members of a Joint, Interagency, Intergovernmental, and Multinational (JIIM) team or as a Mission Command Element (MCE); provides first class support to Soldiers, Airmen, Civilians, and Families; and enable unified action with community, state, and interagency partners to accomplish all assigned missions.

The US Army Signal Regional Network Enterprise Center (RNEC) Fort Carson, CO provides secure, reliable and responsive service in information resources and information technology to multi-component forces, fully supporting Fort Carson as a Power Projection Platform. The RNEC serves as principal focal point at Fort Carson for information management matters and provides functional policy and guidance on Fort Carson IT systems and support, to include long haul and base communication (BASECOM) services for the entire installation, including all tenant organizations and activities. Additionally, the RNEC provides the information technology management strategic planning perspective to the Fort Carson strategic planning process, to include alignment with the Army strategic vision, goals and objectives. The RNEC develops and implements Fort Carson IT performance measurements and provides oversight of Fort Carson Information Assurance Program. The RNEC serves as Fort Carson's functional proponent for AKM transformation, Army Enterprise portals, Army Knowledge Enterprise Architecture and Army Enterprise Info-structure.

Our Network Administrator will perform as a member of our comprehensive team supporting various aspects of computer network administration within the disciplines of overarching network management, C4IM services, Cybersecurity services and automation.


  • Perform as a daily Network Administrator in addition to the above listed Site Lead duties.

  • Analyze LAN utilization statistics through data collection and performance measures of classified and unclassified networks.

  • Operate and maintain the network architecture for both Non-Secure Internet Protocol Router Network (NIPRNET) and Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET) C4IM classification domains.

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and fine-tune components such as switches, routers, encryption devices, 802.11 controller, antennas and access points, 802.16 antennas, firewalls, and Virtual Private Network (VPN) concentrators within the overall network connectivity. Operate and maintain the Layer 3 and Layer 2 environment with knowledge of Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, Air Fortress and TACLANE operating platforms.

  • Install, and maintain operational capability and security standards on network management systems to include CA Spectrum, CA E-Health, CA NetQoS, BMC BladeLogic Network Automation, Cisco Prime, Cisco Secure Access Control Server/Identity Services Engine, Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS), NetScout InfiniStream, Cisco Wireless Control System and other related NMS operating systems.

  • Test network systems to ensure current network software products are compatible with system configurations and to ensure operability, efficiency, and compliance with existing standards.

  • Monitor operation of the WLAN, LAN and WAN, ensuring hardware and network operating software are functioning properly and that operational standards are met.

  • Perform function tests of systems components to identify and resolve technical problems, analyze system malfunctions, implement necessary corrective actions, and provide ongoing support for the resolution of complex problems and operating malfunction.

  • Perform system backups to ensure expedient restoration of the database for the respective network equipment.

  • Configure, monitor, and provide network installation, configuration, application patching, operation and maintenance, and application hardening according to DoD security directives.

  • Develop documentation to assist the government with best business practice and standard operating procedures for supported technologies and system deployments.

  • Comply with plans, policies, standards, infrastructures, and architectures of DOD and DA IT Management and IT programs.

  • Perform and maintain security remediation, IAVAs, STIG requirements etc. All IAVAs, STIGs, etc., will be considered high priorities and shall be completed within timelines assigned.

  • Review, validate information, and perform corrections if needed for all checklists and controls referring to, Command Cyber Readiness Inspection (CCRI) and RMF semi-annually.

  • Configure, troubleshoot and analyze technologies such as BGP, OSPF, MPLS/VPLS, spanning tree protocols e.g.; MSTP, RSTP, 802.1x, 802.11, 802.16, VPN, DMVPN, SDN, VRRP/HSRP, WAN Acceleration, QoS, VoIP, VTC and similar network technologies. (Refer to paragraph 2.2 for acronym list).

  • Provide or extend network connectivity within the guidelines of the Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Information Management (C4IM) Services, to a location within Fort Carson RNEC and LNECs. This may require some lifting of weight up to 50lbs of equipment and moderate physical work like placing stakes in the ground utilizing a hammer.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED

  • Minimum 3 years related experience in network administration with demonstrated experience in network management, troubleshooting, network device configuration (i.e. routers, switches, VPN, etc), operations, maintenance etc.

  • Minimum SECRET Clearance Required

  • Minimum DOD 8570.01-M IAT II Certified in at least ONE of the following certifications at time of hire:

IAT Level II Certifications:

  1. CCNA Security

  2. CSA+

  3. GICSP

  4. GSEC

  5. Security+ CE

  6. SSCP

IAT Level III Certifications (Also Acceptable):

    1. CASP+ CE

    2. CCNP Security

    3. CISA

    4. CISSP

    5. GCED

    6. GCIH
  • Obtain at least ONE of the following certifications within 6 months of hire:
    1. Juniper Network Certified Internet Professional (JNCIP)

    2. Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification,
  • Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions audio-visual equipment weighing up to 75 lbs

  • Frequently bends, kneels and crouches during computer system equipment troubleshooting, maintenance, assembly/disassembly, installation/de-installation, and sustainment.

  • May be required to drive vehicle if needed to perform tasks at Fort Carson, CO

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in related information technology field.
