Responsibilities

Network Engineer Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Candidate is responsible for analyzing computing/Wide Area (WAN) topologies from a risk and systems engineering perspective. Activities include conducting technical security and risk assessments, drafting assessment reports and memoranda for senior officers; developing and providing briefing assessments briefings, attending customer meetings, and participating in all Sponsor activities related to the assignment.

Assessments will focus on WAN technologies such a Cloud Computing, Software Defined Networking (SDN), IPv4 and IPv6 networks, virtualized networking products, to validate and verift operational and technical requirements, identify points of vulnerability and operational security risks, address non-compliance with established standards and regulation, assess and mitigate system security threats/risks throughout the project lifecycle, and recommend mitigation strategies.


Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Ten or more years of experience providing computer system engineering services and/or WAN engineering services
  • Ten or more years of computer system engineering experience in a secure environment and three or more years supporting mission based IP networks.
  • Experience with planning, configuring, implementing and maintaining IP network infrastructure products including routers, switches, wireless networks, VPNs, IDS/IPS, firewalls, One Way Transfer (OWT) appliances
  • Demonstrated experience with computer and network security principles
  • Two or more years of experience designing and configuring cloud computing solutions. Amazon Web Services (AWS) experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Software Defined Networks and OpenFlow
  • Experience with desktop and server operating systems such as Windows Server (2008R2/2012R2), Windows Workstation (7/8.1), Linux (Redhat/Debian/Ubuntu) and OSX operating systems
  • Two or more year of experience installing and configuring virtual machines using VMWare or equivalent products
  • Knowledge and experience with encryption products, methodologies and configurations
  • Experience with Network Management products such as HP OpenView and Solarwinds
  • Experience writing technical documents using Microsoft Word
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio

  • Candidates must have one or more of the following certifications.
  • Amazon Certified Architect associated or similar cloud certification
  • VMWare Certified Professional vSpehere 5 (VCP5)*
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or Red Hat Certified Security Specialist (RHCSS)

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with one or more of the following network operating systems Cisco iOs, NXOS, JunOS
  • Hands on experience with Network Packet Capture Appliances/Applications, such as Netwitness, Solera, Probe, Wireshark, Snort
  • One or more of the following certifications
  • Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or IT Professional (MCITP)
  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)

Education

Requires 16+ years with BS/BA or

14+ years with MS/MA or

10+ years with Ph.D.

Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical certifications or training, or work experience.
