Mill Quality Leader

Loudon, TN

Purpose

Provide leadership and technical support for quality assurance, raw materials acceptance, vendor certification, and customer complaint response management for mill operations.

Key Customers

Staff/Mill Quality, Operations, Staff Research & Development, Staff Engineering, and Purchasing.

Expectations

  • Act as mill liaison with Sector Staff and other mills regarding quality assurance. Participate as a member of the KCP Sector Quality Council
  • Effectively lead and implement quality testing, raw materials acceptance, complaint system management, and regulatory technical support
  • Assist operating teams with resolving process capability problems
  • Control the implementation of design experiments, MSRs and RSRs so as to ensure integrity of resultant data and conclusions
  • Comply with internal control requirements.
  • Comply with Professional Sector requirements
  • Coach operating employees on quality conformance
  • Monitor system performance and identify system improvement opportunities.
  • Foster internal and external vendor partnership relationships
  • Prepare Mill Monthly Quality Report
  • Provide work direction for Mill Quality Coordinator
  • Provide mentorship for shift Bath Tissue and Hand Towels Quality Second Hat Roles.

Scope

  • Reports directly to the Sr Quality Manager, Kimberly-Clark Professional North America
  • Directs Quality Assurance and process engineering support to a broad range of technically complex manufacturing operations in both the Bath Tissue and Hand Towels units of the Mill (finished product testing, raw materials testing, prevention audits, quality data analysis, etc.)

  • Assists Operations in developing and implementing programs to meet mill safety, quality, and productivity objectives
  • Provides work direction to Mill operating personnel and Staff scientist and engineers completing designed experiments on Mill processes
  • Identifies and responds to training needs and coaches operating teams to develop technical problem solving, centerlining development and process control skills
  • Often interacts directly with Sector staff and business teams to participate in decisions impacting product and process design and specifications
  • Skills required include: initiative, structured problem solving and decision making, thoroughness, creativity, planning, controlling, flexibility, personal sensitivity, the ability to lead, and collaboration.

Qualifications/Education/ Experience Required

  • Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline and typically 4-8 years experience and /or combinations of advanced degrees or lesser amounts of relevant experience.
  • The incumbent must be able to effectively organize and lead multifunctional teams.
  • He/she typically has in-depth knowledge in a single functional area and has applied that knowledge across a variety of projects and /or manufacturing issues within the team.
  • Has experience working in a regulated industry

Principle Accountabilities

  • Carry out job responsibilities in a safe manner.
  • Technical Knowledge: Develop knowledge and skills to be recognized for expertise and functional leadership in application of quality assurance and regulatory principles.

  • Develop and implement programs and procedures to ensure conformance to quality standards, the achievement of mill quality objectives.
  • Develop, recommend, and audit implementation of mill programs to ensure conformance to company policies and product safety.
  • Develop and maintain systems to provide Operations with information on finished product quality, running to target, centerline conformance and process capability.
  • Provide direction and participative leadership in the practical application of the Quality Management Process in all assignments and responsibilities.
  • Provide for review and evaluation of all proposed product specifications and inspection procedures to ensure compatibility with mill process, equipment, and materials capabilities.
  • Maintain up to date specifications and procedures for all raw materials, finished product, inspection and test procedures.
  • Maintain security and documentation to ensure the retrieval of data and protection of proprietary information
  • Internal Control: Lead assigned projects/tasks to meet unit objectives within applicable corporate policies.
  • Communication: Communicate fully with superiors, subordinates and others who have need to know. Communicate in a way that is timely, yet prompt; complete, yet concise; candid, yet accurate; and clear, yet responsive.

  • Maintain documentation control as governed by record retention guidelines
  • Ensure continued safe work practices of self and others by complying with company and governmental regulations. Maintain good housekeeping standards while eliminating and preventing losses of all types (injuries, illnesses, process loss, property damage).
  • Comply with the standards and requirements of the Loudon Mill EHS Management System.
  • Ensure that all activities support Loudon and Sector policies and regulations.
  • Identify all aspects and hazards in areas of accountability and ensure they are managed to acceptable levels of risk.
  • Report and investigate to the Loudon standard all substandard acts and conditions.
  • Adhere to the policies, procedures and work instructions referred to in the Quality Manual and to understand how their individual role contributes to the overall effectiveness of the system and continuous improvement of the products produced at Loudon.
