Job Description

As a Research Associate working on the In Vivo Services team within the Comparative Medicine department, you will be empowered to conduct in vivo studies, master technical skills, and animal husbandry related services, and a typical day will include:

POSITION OBJECTIVES:

  • Provide technical support with complex animal studies supporting Pharmacokinetics, Neuroscience, Gastrointestinal and Early Target Discovery.
  • Performs in vivo manipulations and techniques including multiple routes of dosing, sample collection, and histology preparation with efficiency, accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Manages sample transfer and provide study updates
  • Animal husbandry support and general laboratory upkeep
  • Will require weekend coverage (Saturday & Sunday)

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Assist multiple teams in performing in vivo studies, gaining exposure to study design, technical procedures, basic laboratory equipment, and drug formulation
  • Hands-on laboratory animal technical skills
  • Work in a team environment and collaborate with multiple functions
  • Record clear and concise study data with integrity
  • Effectively communicate with teams being assisted
  • Serve as the backup to animal husbandry care lead (cage changing, clinical observation, maintain clean vivarium)
  • Weekend animal husbandry and dosing

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Prior rodent handling experience required.
  • Proficiency in PO, IP, IM and IV dosing required
  • Candidate should be a self-starter, and able to work independently and in a team environment to achieve objectives in a timely manner
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and other common electronic systems
  • Bachelors degree in a scientific discipline, or equivalent in a scientific field with 4 years of previous laboratory animal experience
  • Completion of college level animal science/biology coursework

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

  • AALAS Certification LAT (not required, but preferred)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Routine demands of an office and laboratory based environment.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be willing to work off-hours, holidays and weekends
