The candidate should have an Associates in chemistry, cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field. A Bachelor's is preferred. In addition, some laboratory experience is desirable. The Research Specialist will join a team of researchers examining the cellular and molecular mechanisms of genomic instability associated with aging and cancer. Primary duties will include cellular microscopy, protein biochemistry and purification, maintenance of cell cultures, and DNA isolation and analysis. Duties also include performing standard molecular biology assays, immuno-fluorescence and microscopy.

The Research Specialist will also be required to analyze and interpret results from experimental protocols, in addition to designing, optimizing and troubleshooting existing and newly developed experimental protocols in the laboratory. The Research Specialist is expected to perform such duties independently, while receiving advice and input as needed from the supervisor. Computer skills, data management and strong organizational skills are required. Participation in laboratory maintenance, chemical hygiene and radiation safety are also required.
