Identify unknown samples using FT-IR, GC/MS, EDXRF and Imaging Microscopy for a Fortune 200 company with some of the most iconic brands! We are currently seeking a highly qualified Scientist II to join our Quality Lab Services Department in Richmond, VA to work as an Analytical Chemist. In this role, you will identify unknown samples using FT-IR, GC/MS, EDXRF and Imaging Microscopy. You will provide technical leadership for routine quality assurance testing performed using GC, HPLC, FT-IR, Refractometer, Densitometer and Viscometer. You will also troubleshoot processes for improvements using physical test instruments such as Near IR Meter, Tensile Tester and Coefficient of Friction Tester. Applicants must have a bachelor's or master's degree in chemistry, forensic chemistry, biochemistry, or a closely related field as well as experience performing qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis. Strong working knowledge of FT-IR and GC/MS are required.

What you will be doing:

  • Use FT-IR, GC/MS, EDXRF and Imaging Microscopy for timely and thorough chemical identification of unknown samples
  • Perform maintenance of FT-IR, GC/MS, EDXRF and Imaging Microscopy
  • Maintaining and managing the appropriate documentation to be compliant with Quality Systems and Records Management policies
  • Providing support to product developers and factory personnel to achieve department and company initiatives
  • Provide technical leadership for routine quality assurance test methods for continuous method improvements, method validations and compliance
  • Participating on cross-functional teams representing Quality Assurance
  • This position is responsible for the delivery of high quality Analytical Science services to PM USA.
What we want you to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry, forensic science, biochemistry, or closely related field with 3-5 years of laboratory experience
  • Master's degree in chemistry, forensic science, biochemistry, or closely related field with 1 year laboratory experience
  • Experience with FT-IR and GC/MS
  • Experience with other molecular spectroscopy, elemental spectroscopy, separation sciences and physical test instruments preferred.
  • Agilent Chemstation and Thermo Scientific OMNIC software knowledge preferred
  • Experience working with Quality Systems such as GLP, ISO 17025, or ISO 9001 desired
  • Excellent attention to detail, verbal and written communication skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direction and be a great teammate
  • Must be able to work C Shift 11PM-7AM
