Sr. Accountant

This position is a key member of the Fairbanks Morse (FM) Corporate Finance/Accounting team. This employee is responsible for the accounting of Warranty, Bad Debt and Fixed Assets, including leases, as well as intercompany activity.This employee will be actively involved in monthly financial close, ensuring deadlines are met while maintaining adequate compliance with appropriate financial regulatory requirements. In addition, this employee will be detail-oriented, having a proven ability to provide timely and accurate information to management for effective decision making.Required characteristics for success in this position include being detail and deadline oriented, team focused and exhibiting positivity, while possessing the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.

In this role your responsibilities will be, but not limited to the following:

  • Records the cost of newly acquired fixed assets (both tangible and intangible and leases)
  • Tracks existing fixed assets, recording depreciation, and accounting for the disposition of fixed assets
  • Reviews fixed assets requisitions and manages fixed asset software
  • Performs Lease versus Buy analysis
  • Accounts for Warranty accrual, including meeting with warranty engineer
  • Accounts for Bad debt
  • Assists with financial month-end close; calculates and reports FOB accrual
  • Prepares reconciliations
  • Assists with internal and external audits; may manage responses to audit sections
  • Ensures compliance with GAAP, SOX, and other regulatory requirements; recommends policies and procedures for improving daily compliance, ensuring proper internal controls are followed
  • Performs in a manner that would support Fairbanks Morse's key values of Integrity, Velocity and Teamwork
Basic requirements for the role include:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Working towards CPA or CPA preferred
  • At least 5 years of experience in Accounting/Finance, notably experience in financial close, meeting tight deadlines
  • Proficiency in use of an ERP computer software package; preferably Oracle
  • Proficient in Excel (macros, pivot tables, etc.)
  • This position requires access or potential access to Unclassified Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information, which is Not Releasable to Foreign Nationals (NOFORN) data. Therefore, to meet NOFORN requirement, you will have to provide proof of US Citizenship and attest that you do not have dual citizenship. Acceptable proof of US Citizenship is a US Passport, US Birth Certificate or Naturalization Certificate.
Preferred qualifications include:
  • GAAP knowledge related to revenue recognition, leases and other recent accounting pronouncements is a plus
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus
