Job Title: Senior Advisor for Gender-Based Violence Initiatives

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Unit: Executive Management

Position Summary:
The Manhattan D.A.'s Office seeks a Senior Advisor to support its office-wide Gender-Based Violence ("GBV") Initiatives. Addressing gender-based violence is priority for this office. This new position will be responsible for working across multiple units within the office to cultivate an approach for survivors which is rooted in trauma-informed practices. The idea is to not only avoid re-traumatizing survivors but to empower them as well. With cultural humility and a passionate commitment to gender and racial equity, the work of justice and safety is understood as a collaborative effort.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Advocacy and Capacity Building

  • With input and direction from Executive Staff, coordinate GBV-related efforts throughout the Office.
  • Coordinate all DANY initiatives and provide ongoing progress reports regarding those efforts.
  • Support associated legislative efforts as appropriate.

Communications and Outreach
  • Establish and maintain consistent and regular communication with community stakeholders, advocates and institutional actors regarding GBV-related efforts and concerns.
  • Work with Communications staff to refine messaging regarding DANY's GBV-related initiatives and the new & impactful approach for survivors.
  • Create opportunities for public-feedback and serve as a point of contact for survivors and interested advocates.

Training and Technical Assistance
  • Identify and assist in coordinating appropriate GBV trainings and professional development resources for prosecutors, investigators and other staff.
  • Coordinate the collection and reporting of GBV data, event summaries and programmatic information for publication.

Qualifications :
  • Program development, implementation and management experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to seeking justice and safety through a lens of cultural humility and gender and racial equity.
  • A demonstrated history of community engagement.
  • Dependable team player who works collaboratively and cooperatively with staff in a team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Fluency in a second language (especially Spanish, Mandarin/Cantonese or Russian).

Educational Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Gender Studies, Public Health, Social Work or related field or on the job experience in a related field.

  • Two (2) year commitment.

Residency Requirement:
  • NYC Residency is required within 90 days of appointment.
