ERM is looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Senior Environmental Manager to join our growing team in the San Francisco Bay Area, CA. Working under the direction of principal consultants and partners, the successful candidate will help develop and implement a variety of environmental programs for various clients throughout the SF Bay Area. This role is dynamic and includes opportunities to both work deeply within client organizations while also building skills and experience on a variety of shorter-term client projects.   • Oversee the implementation Environmental programs; for example, Tier II chemical management, Hazardous Materials Business Plan development and reporting, SPCC planning and compliance, Construction and Industrial storm water permits, and MS4 storm water programs.
  • Work with client organizations to assess the maturity of compliance programs and create improvement strategies based on industry best practices, tailored to each client.
  • Serve as the client representative on environmental issues and safety concerns for building upgrade and infrastructure improvement projects, and leverage ERMs in-house specialty technical experts when needed.
  • Conduct fieldwork, including performing industrial facility compliance assessments, data gap assessments, and soil assessments.
  • Contribute to civil design efforts, including design drawing reviews.
  • Understand environmental compliance plans, permits, and reports; leading a team responsible for air quality, hazardous waste, spill prevention, storm water, and wastewater while ensuring compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.
  • Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
  • Communicate with subcontractors, regulatory agencies, tenants, and clients during field activities.


  • BA/BS in engineering (civil, environmental, chemical, or mechanical), geology, construction management, or comparable degree; or 8+ years equivalent experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of project and/or facilities management with some environmental related experience.
  • Strong skill for hearing client needs and building networks of support to deliver services.
  • Effective written and verbal communication as well as strong organization and analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with an aptitude for hands-on trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
  • Willing to work from client offices on an as needed basis (approximately 20% of the time).
  • Valid drivers license.
  • Desire to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, travel, and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with environmental site assessment including soil sampling desirable, but not required.
  • Environmental field work experience and 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification desirable, but not required.
  • Local candidates preferred, but not required.
