This role will lead construction and other facilities projects at Medtronic facilities located across North, Central, and South America. This requires working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to bring projects from a concept, through the design development process, and ultimately execute projects on schedule and within established budgets. The role involves managing a variety of projects ranging from new construction, outfitting new leased spaces, facility expansions, relocations, and facility modifications at medical technology manufacturing, R&D, administrative, and distribution center facilities across multiple Medtronic Operating Units. This position is part of a team of facility project managers reporting into the Enterprise Facilities, Real Estate, and Risk Management organization.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Manages a wide variety of facility construction and facility modification projects from conceptual planning, through the design development process, to completion and close-out.
  • Manages projects at a wide variety of facilities and various Medtronic operating units across the Americas, including administrative, R&D, Manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers.
  • Leads cross functional project teams, collaborating to achieve business goals through facility enhancement, expansion, modification, and new construction projects.
  • Accountable for ensuring scope, schedule, resource, and cost constraints are actively managed and executed with regular status reports and robust communication to a variety of project stakeholders.
  • Works independently under limited supervision and in close collaboration with team members to ensure project deliverables are executed on time and within budget.
  • Draws on experience and other resources to develop preliminary cost estimates for conceptual project designs.
  • Works within the framework of Medtronic policies and with internal and external resources to facilitate bidding and RFP's, contractor selection, establishing legal agreements and contracts with project resources, and serves as the main point of contact for contractors and consultants on all projects.
  • Collaborates with peers to continually improve methods and tools for effective project management.
  • Actively manages financial transactions related to project spending and routinely prepares spending reports and forecasts for leadership stakeholders.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree and 7 + years facilities or construction project management experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years experience
  • Ability to travel anywhere in North, Central, or South America up to 50% of the time
Nice to Have
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in engineering, construction management, or related technical discipline. Masters degree in related field or business administration is desirable.
  • PMP Certification and/or Professional Engineer credential
  • Strong financial acumen to develop cost estimates, establish capital and expense budgets, forecasts, and status reports.
  • Professional, thoughtful, proactive, and concise communication skills to a variety of audiences from project team members, leadership stakeholders, and regulators.
  • Strong understanding of general building mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and related systems as well as systems common to lab and medical device manufacturing operations including but not limited to clean dry air, bulk gases, purified water, wastewater treatment and neutralization, emergency power generation and UPS systems, among others.
  • Familiar with applicable Fire and Building Codes as well as ISO standards that relate to cleanroom construction and related systems common in medical device manufacturing environments.
  • Experience working within an ISO13495 quality management system and ensuring good documentation practices.
  • Experience in commissioning, validation, qualifications, etc. in a regulated medical device, pharmaceutical, or electronic industry.
  • Experience leading the design, construction, commissioning of Mechanical systems such as HVAC, Compressed Air, Emergency Power Generation, Wastewater treatment plant, among others in a manufacturing environment.
  • General understanding of Building Automation Systems (BAS) interfaces and devices and overall functionality.
  • Ability to consult manuals, read and interpret circuit diagrams, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Training in safety practices and able to assess tasks/situations to determine potential hazards and safety risks. Develop/communicate procedures necessary to accomplish a task while ensuring worker safety.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, specifically Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Microsoft Project. Experience with SAP, BlueBeam, and AutoCad or equivalent drafting software desired.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English. Spanish language proficiency is a bonus.
