Job Description

The Derivatives Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for the key function of performing multiple derivatives processes and hedge accounting reporting requirements in compliance with policies as it relates to hedging activities. The ability to manage periodical financial reporting and maintain the effectiveness of internal controls are essential to this role. Collaboration with Derivatives Operations, Policy and Middle Office teams is expected to accomplish objectives. This position is accountable for providing accurate, timely, and reliable reporting and analysis to internal and external audiences. This role will report directly to the Director, Hedge Accounting and Reporting General Account COE.


  • Run month-end and quarter-end close derivatives and hedge accounting processes, prepare journal entries and supporting documentation in compliance with corporate close calendars.
  • Review and approve hedge accounting activities such as manual entries, control processes and general ledger account reports.
  • Reconciliation of various complex financial data, conduct detailed analysis into financial results and provide information to business units that facilitate decision making by management.
  • Analyze and post complex and specialized adjustments to the general ledger.
  • Preparation of financial statements and footnotes disclosures for quarterly and annual external filings.
  • Coordinate with Derivatives Operations, Middle Office and Advisory teams on various corporate initiatives and assessment of impact of updates to any new accounting standards.
  • Execute full compliance with SOX controls framework and complete deliverables associated with internal and external audits.
  • Assist with financial system implementations, changes, and upgrades as necessary (Maximis to Simcorp Dimension).
  • Identify and implement financial process improvement initiatives to meet continuous improvement objectives with a focus on maximizing the benefits from Project GO and the availability of data in the Investment Division Data Lake (IDDL).

What we are looking for

  • Solid accounting fundamentals including journal entries and financial statement analysis
  • Knowledge on various derivative instruments and understanding of derivative operational processes.
  • Background in IFRS and NAIC on derivatives and hedge accounting required.
  • Experience in an insurance or financial services environment.
  • CPA/CA designation or equivalent accounting experience required.
  • Ability to apply a large amount of technical accounting materials.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and Power BI including use of functions and complex tables.
  • Self-starter, capable of working independently with attention to detail and strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and cope in a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal with all levels of the organization.
