About the Opportunity

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond has two immediate openings for Senior Manager in the Community & Regional Safety and Soundness unit of the Supervision, Regulation and Credit Department. In this role, the Senior Manager is responsible for a team of examiners with varying levels of experience and expertise; evaluates staff performance and provides timely and balanced feedback; manages the training and development of assigned staff; and coaches a team of examiners both on-site during examinations and during report writing to ensure thorough and accurate evaluation and documentation of findings. Within the unit, the Senior Manager actively contributes to the development of the strategic projects and initiatives; supports and makes decisions regarding various priorities; and assists in establishing unit practices. The position is located in Richmond, VA.

What You Will Do

  • Motivates people to deliver results with enthusiasm and loyalty, and builds an effective, cohesive and creative team
  • Provides oversight, direction, and leadership to teams performing supervision of financial institutions, ensuring that regulatory findings are communicated properly, accurately, and timely
  • Provides oversight of the activities of those responsible for ensuring that all work is performed in adherence to accepted industry standards and regulations
  • Effectively conveys goals and objectives of unit to team members and facilitate understanding of how those goals and objectives contribute to the vision, mission and goals of the Department, the Bank, and the System.
  • Supervises direct reports by assigning and monitoring work activities, providing oversight and guidance as needed; conducts mid-year and annual performance evaluations; provides ongoing coaching, feedback and resources to identify development needs regarding job performance and progressively more responsible assignments
  • Identifies operational efficiencies, seeks improvements to analysis and monitoring processes by evaluating and refining processes and procedures
  • Regularly interacts with all levels of officers and managers to provide expertise to address and resolve complex supervision, regulation, and risk issues
  • Fosters relationships with Board staff, other regulators, and peers System wide, as appropriate
  • Identifies emerging trends and industry issues
  • Delivers concise and well written supervisory documents and communicates findings to supervised institutions, the Board of Governors, and Reserve Bank management
  • Provides recommendations, interpretations and consultative services to key stakeholders on institutional supervision issues
  • Willing and able to travel 20% to 50% of the time, economic and public health conditions pending
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Broad and deep technical knowledge of, and ability to interpret and apply, regulatory compliance analysis and supervisory risk mitigation
  • 9+ years of relevant functional and professionally relevant work experience
  • 3-5+ years of demonstrated management or supervisory experience of staff with varied backgrounds/credentials or other relevant experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Management, or equivalent
  • Examiner commission and credentials preferred
  • Expertise in problem solving, creativity and innovation to determine problem areas and provide fresh approaches to solving complex financial institution risk issues
  • Advanced analytical, planning, problem-solving, and organizational skills required to direct and lead staff
  • Outstanding oral and written communication, with an ability to negotiate with all levels of Bank management, the Board of Governors and staff

  • Under conflict of interest guidelines administered by the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, examining personnel may not participate on an examination of a financial institution or affiliate if the examiner was employed by the financial institution or affiliate within the past 12 months.
  • FRB ethics rules generally prohibit employees and their immediate families from owning investments in banks, savings associations or their holding companies (Section 5.3). Additionally, employees engaged in Supervision and Regulation may be subject to borrowing and deposit restrictions.
  • No sponsorship is avaialbe for this position. An applicant posting for employment as a Federal Reserve examiner must be a U.S. citizen or hold a permanent residence visa/Green Card and be an intending citizen.
