This Software Engineering Senior Manager position is the perfect role for a self-motivated, analytically-minded individual with a passion for developing people and delivering data-driven insights. This vital leadership position will manage a team of software engineers, designers, and analysts in the planning, development, deployment, and maintenance of web-based analytic platforms serving the needs of Cigna's Evernorth Service Operations. The reporting dashboards, data extract utilities, and other analytic tools housed within these platforms aid Service Operations in reducing waste, improving quality, increasing speed, and maximizing throughput within our operations.

The individual holding this position will be expected to develop and maintain effective working relationships with our Customer Service, Client Service, Provider Service, and Workforce Planning organizations, while productively collaborating with partners in Technology, Finance, Strategy, Operational Readiness, and Solutions Delivery. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Web Platforms personnel, development of their hard and soft skills, as well as actively looking for opportunities to improve these platforms and the content within them to better serve the needs of the team's internal business partners.


  • Responsible for design, development, deployment, and maintenance of analytic platforms and content related to Evernorth Service Operations.
  • Stakeholders with business partners and analytics leadership to craft and prioritize a portfolio of projects aligned to critical organizational objectives.
  • Organizes and assigns work to analysts/designers/engineers in ways that promote productivity, accountability, and growth.
  • Seeks to continuously understand Evernorth/Cigna/Express Scripts in order to make well-informed, well-aligned decisions as an enterprise-minded leader.
  • Puts expectations, controls, and processes in place to ensure vigilant support of high-quality, high-value analytic platforms and products.
  • Proactively identifies and develops training plans for knowledge gaps (technical or business-related) that limit team effectiveness.
  • Identifies opportunities and implements improvements to team platforms, processes, and tools to enhance team effectiveness.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with Customer Service, Client Service, Provider Service, Workforce Planning, Technology, Finance, Strategy, Operational Readiness, and Solutions Delivery.
  • Provides status updates, relevant guidance, and thoughtful presentations to a wide array of internal business customers including senior leaders in Evernorth Service Operations.
  • Continually monitors the analytic tools, methods, and overall tech stack used by the department and critically assesses relative to an ever-evolving set of global competitors.


  • Bachelor's degree in related field with 5 years of experience.
  • 11 years relevant experience without Bachelor's Degree.
  • A proven track-record of analytical/technical skill development.
  • Experience with Web Development - ReactJS, Angular, Vue, Java/JSP, ColdFusion, and/or ASP.NET strongly preferred.
  • Solid background in SQL - Microsoft SQL Server, Teradata, Oracle, PostGres, Hive preferred.
  • Experience with Data Visualization - Tableau, Highcharts, FusionCharts, Plotly, and/or D3 preferred.
  • Able to effectively coordinate with essential IT partners to bring relevant experts to the table in order to deliver meaningful improvements.
  • A proven track-record of improving processes to more efficiently use time, storage, and processing strongly preferred.
  • A successful history of mentorship in managerial or non-managerial roles.
  • Able to develop and draw upon subject matter expertise in discussions with team member and business customers.
  • Able to turn high-level ideas into concrete action plans.
  • Able to prioritize across a wide array or projects and effectively communicate prioritization decisions to relevant stakeholders.
  • Able to effectively manage to agreed-upon deliverable dates.
  • Detail-oriented in delivery of platform enhancements, analytic products, and stability measures.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience in Healthcare, Pharmacy, Contact Center, and/or Print/Digital Communications a plus.


The Service Operations Analytics & Reporting organization supports the data and analytical needs of Evernorth Service Operations. As a center of excellence for best practices in Data Platforms, Web Platforms, Data Science, Advanced Analytics, and Business Intelligence, the team brings together data from contact centers, print and digital communications, eligibility, client benefit setup, coverage review and beyond in novel ways to provide actionable insights to business partners from front-line Prior Authorization Representatives and Patient Care Advocates to Senior Leadership across Evernorth, Express Scripts, and Cigna.
