Edelman is currently seeking an SVP, Strategy Director with experience developing brand and communications strategy for clients based on insights, creativity, and business acumen in the Technology sector. This role is for you if you have a passion for inspiring big ideas and uncovering insights that lead to bigger, better, and bolder earned-centric ideas.


This position is situated within Edelman's Technology sector, a network made up of more than 800 professionals, including public affairs and corporate reputation experts, technology policy and issues specialists and brand marketers. Former product leaders, technologists and industry analysts are also at the core of our technology offering.

The SVP, Strategy Director will help Tech clients in the consumer and enterprise spaces navigate the dynamic culture of tech and the web as well as today's most pressing issues - data transparency, privacy regulation, hiring and retention of top tech talent, diversity and inclusion, IoT, and more.

You will be responsible for providing overall strategy, insights and direction to aid in the development of integrated campaigns and communication platforms. Working closely with the agency's account managers, creatives, and a variety of other subject matter experts, like performance marketers and data analysts, etc. you will drive the development of big ideas into the communications mix using a synthesis of proprietary intellectual property and secondary research, market/category dynamics, stakeholder and consumer data, competitive analysis and cultural trends. You must be comfortable in a fast-paced and agile environment.

Specific Duties/Skill Requirements

    • Experience in an integrated marketing, advertising, digital or public relations agency setting.
    • Familiarity with agency planning models and capabilities.
    • Passion for both consumer and enterprise technology marketing and communications, experience with Tech publications/media and keenly aware of with navigating regulations within the industry.
    • Solid grasp of brand strategy and marketing communications strategy
    • Ability to consult on primary research and lead secondary research (based on core research skills such as designing and executing ethnographies, focus groups and brand workshops, as well as data analysis.)
    • Proven track record of building effective interpersonal relationships with direct reports, strategy, creative and account colleagues, leadership and clients, and successfully navigating matrixed organizations.
    • Strong presentation skills and the ability to articulate smart and sometimes complex solutions in a straightforward and lucid manner to a variety of internal and external audiences, up to the C-level.
    • Deft at developing powerful narratives that deliver on insights and drive strategy
    • An understanding of the role that earned media and social media play in the overall communications marketing mix.
    • Has played a significant role in successfully establishing a new brand, leading a "Challenger Brand" to greater prominence, or reinventing an established brand so that it's now flourishing again and is able to speak to results of these efforts.
    • A deep understanding and appreciation of tech culture - the trends, the disruptions, the behaviors and the complexities/opportunities.
    • Proven ability of inspiring and shaping ideas that live in tech culture and beyond
    • A true collaborator, able to work across, creative, account, subject matter experts and client constituents, and alongside fellow strategists.
    • Explore the intersection of culture, brands and audiences from new angles to arrive at deeper insights, more provocative marketing strategies and breakthrough brand-building platforms.
    • Proactively stay on top of innovation, industry trends and cultural norms.
    • Partner with Resource Management to ensure Strategy team is appropriately staffed to the client need and potential.

Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience managing and mentoring team members.
    • Strong communication skills - active listening, negotiation and persuasion.
    • Confidence and conviction in presenting ideas and providing strategic counsel to internal and external audiences.
    • The ability to juggle multiple tasks at once.
    • High emotional intelligence.
    • A self-starter who uses good judgement, is comfortable solving problems independently and who is not afraid to take risks.
    • The ability to utilize and integrate strategic tools into day-to-day work as necessary including MRI, Iconoculture, ComScore, Quid, eMarketer, etc.
    • Skilled at participating in, and leading, strategic discussions both internally and with clients.
