Job Description

Accountable for planning, organizing and controlling the manufacturing and support activities at a manufacturing facility to produce quality products on time and competitively in compliance with regulatory requirements. This position reports to the Head of Plasma Operating Unit.


  • Responsible for all production and support operations at the facility which may operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

  • Accountable for delivering quality parts in a timely manner at the most competitive cost to the Corporation.

  • Oversees on-going product quality and improvements.

  • Directs all plant EHS programs.

  • Responsible for facility distribution & logistics.

  • Responsible for close and consistent interaction with other Plant Managers and Technology Groups within the Corporation and numerous contract vendors outside the Corporation to coordinate and resolve issues.

  • Plans and controls operations through a staff organization which typically includes but is not limited to Manufacturing, Plant Controller, Plant Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Human Resources, Logistics, & Distribution.

  • Manages and develops staff and strategies to maintain succession plans for the plants management positions.

  • Directs the development and establishment of essential technical manufacturing processes to accommodate the introduction of new products into the facility.

  • Responsible for compliance with all regulatory policies. Determines plant policies consistent with Division & Corporate requirements.

  • Represents the community and promotes the Company's "Best Citizen" directive within the plant's community.


Technical/Functional (Line) Expertise

  • Knowledge in plastics-related, medical devices, sterilization, product quality, GMP methods and processes in a FDA regulated industry.

  • Must be very knowledgeable in Device Manufacturing Processes and associated regulations. Must have manufacturing or process development experience in the Device Industry. In some facilities, biologics experience, Mammalian cell culture, protein purification and characterization processes, process development and transfer in a cGMP/FDA regulated environment is required.

  • Must have a demonstrated work history in managing people and projects of a diverse nature.

  • Must be capable of analyzing and solving complex problems. This position requires good interpersonal skills.

  • Role requires ability to rapidly understand complex business and technical issues.


  • Engages all disciplines across GMS, works across organizational boundaries with GPLS, Commercial Regions, and R&D/Pharm Sci.


  • Responsible for staying current on product specific technologies, changing business and competitive landscapes.

  • An understanding of Product Development and device development, digital health advances and how these can be considered in the context of lifecycle planning.


  • High complexity management in the form of technologies, supply chain, organization, governance, product portfolios, changing external environment, and cultural/language considerations.



  • Bachelor's degree required in Science and/or Engineering desired. Preferably in technical discipline. MBA preferred.

  • 4 - 6 years experience in plant management

  • 11 - 13 years experience in areas of manufacturing

Desired: Advanced degree and technical knowledge.


Physical Demands

  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and carry up to 30 lbs.

  • In general, the position requires a combination of sedentary work and walking around observing conditions in the facility.

Working Environment

  • This is a controlled sterile manufacturing environment & in certain areas there will be guidance in place in terms of what's appropriate to wear to ensure employee safety. Also as a 24/7 operation the ability to support out of normal hours work will be required.
