Garmins marine division is hiring aSoftware Quality Specialistat our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas, a beautiful suburb of the Kansas City metro area. In this very hands-on role, you will manually test multi-function displays (MFDs) as part of the Garmin marine ecosystem, using a custom test rig, simulators, and various lab equipment. You will have the opportunity to do on the water testing on Garmins engineering test boat.



Essential functions include:



  • Create test plans applicable to each release by working closely with product development teams to ensure quality and usability of Garmin products

  • Develop and maintain test cases as necessary per test process, including functional, end to end and validation testing

  • Provide leadership on small to mid-sized projects with responsibilities that include test planning, test activity coordination and reporting test results to development teams

  • Participate in the definition of new and improved test processes

  • Execute manual tests of Garmin software in accordance with established testing protocols to ensure quality and compliance with stated requirements

  • Verify issues reported to software quality team for validity and reproducibility

  • Assist in test case maintenance to keep repository current

  • Verify software fixes in new software releases

  • Interact with developers and other QA team members to identify, report, and troubleshoot defects in a detailed, efficient, and timely manner

  • Document and communicate test results ALM defect tracking tool

  • Work independently with little oversight on feature level test assignments


Qualified candidates should possesstechnical school certification or a degree from an accredited college, or a minimum of 2 years experience performing a role substantially similar to the essential functions of this job description.




Additional requirements include:



  • Hands-on experience creating test plans, conducting usability tests, and writing test scripts

  • Familiarity and comfortable with hardware manipulation (hooking up, wiring and networking lab equipment)

  • Alpha/Beta testing, and/or White box/Black box testing capabilities

  • Professional experience executing test cases and reporting results to a defect tracking system

  • Strong technical writing skills

  • Proficiency with JIRA

  • Experience using ALM, or comparable tool

  • Experience and/or training in SQ processes and methodologies

  • Ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision

  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment

  • Proficiency in Telnet and Putty, or similar command prompt tools a plus!

  • Marine consumer product experience, or fishing/boating hobbies a plus!

  • Bachelors of Science or Arts Degree from a four-year college or university and previous experience working in a team environment is a plus!
