Spectrum Management Engineer

Responsibilities

The Spectrum Management Engineer performs trade studies, analyses, and simulations to optimize the overall communications performance of terrestrial, satellite, launch vehicle, and ground based systems in support of the systems engineering of a space/ground system to assure critical systems have access to necessary spectrum resources. Specific responsibilities include:
- Support to space and ground segments in the execution of spectrum management tasks.
- Monitor the segment spectrum management execution and identify spectrum management-related risks and opportunities.
- Provide technical performance details as needed to support in preparing applications for Spectrum Certification, Radio Frequency Assignments, Spectrum Supportability Risk Assessments, and ITU registrations.
- Provide systems engineering and spectrum management support in space and terrestrial communication architectures.
- Assist/Perform radio frequency interference analysis of communication systems to resolve spectrum contention issues.
- Assess the performance of satellite and ground systems, communications links.
- Present technical and project status briefings to management and customers
The Spectrum Management Engineer designs, develops, evaluates and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle, generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics, and ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.


Qualifications

- Requires 10 to 12 years with BS/BA or 8 to 10 years with MS/MA or 5 to 7 years with PhD.- Master's Degree or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, communications, or systems engineering
- Strong knowledge in communication systems, architectures, and networks
- Knowledge of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Radio Regulations and Allocations and National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) spectrum management systems and processes
- Working knowledge of interoperability and standards; spectrum management; protocols and infrastructures; wireless communications and network design
