The Sr. Category Manager of Sterilization will lead the overall Strategic Sourcing process with accountability for Supplier Relationship Management, as well as cost, service, and quality metrics for the supply base and reporting to the VP Global Commodities.

The position's scope is global with responsibility for direct purchases of $50M+. This position will engage with Operations Network to ensure delivery of effective sourcing strategies and standards that deliver to Medtronic's overall operations and business results.

Partnering closely with Medtronic's supply management operations networks organizations, this individual will work to leverage cross Operations Network strategies at an enterprise level and continuously work to develop and improve leveraging opportunities by consolidating spend with key business partners supporting the broader interests of Medtronic. In addition, this individual will be responsible for leveraging strategic sourcing processes across Medtronic by maximizing the company's combined purchase power to reduce overall cost of ownership and acquisition through strategic negotiations and optimize supplier relationship management opportunities through partnerships within their primary categories of oversight.

A Day in the Life

The Senior Category Manager will have overall responsibility for leading a cross-functional, cross-divisional category team in the development and implementation of strategies and goals for assigned commodities, in support of business objectives for driving improved supplier relationship management, improved service, quality assurance, advancing technology with R&D / new product development teams, risk reduction/mitigation, and delivering lowest total cost of ownership.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

Supply Strategy Development & Commercial Agreements:

  • Support development & deployment of Global Sterilization category strategies in alignment with Operation Networks.
  • Negotiate cross Operation Network Agreements with suppliers including purchasing, development, supply, VMI, etc.
  • Monitor Agreements for compliance and drive supplier accountability.
  • Develop strong partnering relationships with Suppliers, multiple Manufacturing Operations Sites, Materials Quality Assurance, Materials Technology, Development/Technology/Research community, Technical Sourcing Specialists, Finance and Law Department to accomplish strategic objectives.

Material Cost Optimization Roadmap Strategy & Innovation:
  • Drive year over year total cost of ownership improvement through the use of negotiation, contract management, competitive bidding, should cost analysis, supplier consolidation, and VA/VE.
  • Identify and appropriately leverage technology innovation from commodity supply base.
  • Utilize analytics & metrics to identify, organize suppliers accordingly, in conjunction with Operation Networks.

Supplier Performance & Relationship Management:
  • Lead Supplier Relationship Management process to further leverage our strategic partnerships to achieve our goals and objectives.
  • Leads efforts for supplier analysis, selection processes, make/buy, outsourcing, & business transitions within your area of responsibility.

Supply & Supplier Market Intelligence:
  • Develop and deploy Global market intelligence for Sterilization categories and provide insights to support network optimization opportunities.
  • Research and analyze supply marketplace, maintain working knowledge of cost drivers, product/service pricing, market conditions and identify new and/or alternate sources of supply.

Supplier Risk Management:
  • Develop market & category risk reduction strategies in partnership with operating unit.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors degree required

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience

Nice to Have
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or Supply Chain
  • Strong technical aptitude with expertise in Sterilization and or relevant technical experience
  • Effective negotiation, decision making and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication within team and cross-functionally.
  • Highly organized and effective in managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to professionally represent Medtronic and develop productive working relationships with suppliers.
  • Capable of reading and interpreting engineering documentation and technical data.
  • Fundamental knowledge of Microsoft Office, Analytics, and SAP.
  • Advanced knowledge of Supply Agreements with domestic and international suppliers.
  • Knowledge of Project Management tools and ability to assist in tasks assigned by Project Managers.
