Jackson Hewitt, the second largest tax preparer in the U.S., is looking for a Senior Corporate Tax Accountant to join our team in Sarasota, FL. The position is currently a hybrid role with approximately 6 days per month in the office and will be reporting to the Assistant Controller (Based in NJ), with a dotted line reporting to the Manager of Fixed Assets, Treasury, & Tax (Based in Sarasota, FL). The ideal candidate will be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and will possess excellent communication skills (bother written and verbal), a collaborate working style and possess the ability to work independently or as part of a team.


  • Review the calculation of the current and deferred tax provision and reconciliations, which are currently being prepared by a the third-party.
  • Assist with US Federal & state tax audit preparation and defense
  • Manage and interface with our external auditors and third-party service providers on tax matters and tax compliance.
  • Review of ASC 740/FIN 48 tax exposure analysis & calculations
  • Communicate drivers of the effective tax rate to management
  • Assist in drafting annual financial statement footnote disclosure
  • Find and implement opportunities for tax optimization and strategy
  • Conduct US Federal and state tax research on various topics such as Commercial Activity Tax, Sales and Uses Tax, etc. and assist with tax planning initiatives. Summarize these findings management.
  • Develop technical and professional skills relating to tax matters
  • Identifying gaps in controls and design of internal controls. Maintain and develop controls and procedures for the preparation of the tax provision and sales and use tax filings. Ensure accurate and timely financial reports and various internal & external reporting packages.
  • Provide analytical support to senior management to support key business decisions.
  • Perform ad hoc accounting and financial tasks as may be required from time to time.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA or MBA, currently pursuing is preferred. Big 4 experience is a plus.
  • This role requires 3+ years of experience in tax accounting. R&D tax credit and sales and use tax experience preferred.

  • High degree of attention to detail
  • Experience with Workday is preferred.
  • Although not required, experience in or familiarity with the Financial Services and/or Retail sectors preferred.
