Position Summary:

Performs a variety of professional level engineering duties. Test Engineers create and implement test cases, including documenting defects and failures, to ensure a quality product.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Generate test plans, procedures, and work instructions from customer requirements
  • Assists in the training, development, & work assignment to lab technicians
  • Leads the sourcing activity including specifying and writing equipment specifications, start-up, and creation of Work Instructions for all new laboratory capital purchases
  • Assists in the setup, and the configuration of custom test setups, fixtures, and instrumentation as required by test plans, test standards, and customer instructions
  • Design, Implement and deploy test fixtures, testing apparatus and machines and verify their appropriateness
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of data results through thorough documentation processes
  • Operate a variety of computer automated and manual test equipment including data acquisition systems, environmental chambers, vibration systems, and assorted measurement transducers
  • Prepares reports for gate/technical reviews and technical presentations for internal/external viewing
  • Contracting, scheduling, and supervising tests with sub-contracting facilities
  • Must operate in a manner that reinforces, supports and is consistent with the Cooper Standard Leadership Model
  • Ensures 6S, housekeeping, and health & safety standards are maintained
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description

Education and Qualifications:
  • Four Year College or University Degree or equivalent
  • Three to five years of professional experience
  • Fabrication, blueprint reading skills, and equipment knowledge preferred
  • Knowledge of statistics
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, as well as technical and analytical problem-solving skills
  • Skills or working knowledge of plumbing, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems
  • Good interpersonal skills to work effectively with others in a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Organizational skills
  • Knowledge of standard control systems utilized in Laboratory Testing and Material Testing Equipment preferred
  • Understanding of Material Failure modes, Gage R&R, and Capability Studies a plus
  • Provides solutions to problems in situations that are atypical or infrequently occurring based on practice and existing precedents or procedures
  • Impacts the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of the team; uses discretion to modify work practices and processes to achieve results or improve efficiency
  • Explains moderately complex and/or technical information within the team
  • Willingness and ability to travel, as necessary
