As a Staff Scientist in the Systems and Solutions Integration group at Illumina you will work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment to help create genomic sequencing tools used in the leading edge of research and medical diagnostics. You will participate in the development of robust, high quality products through the integration of hardware, software, and chemistry components.

In this role you will optimize system performance, solve complex challenges and perform iterative testing to create great products. The ideal candidate will synthesize an understanding of the technology, risks, and customer perspective to create great products that have a positive impact on peoples lives.

Responsibilities include:
Hands-on testing and integration of systems - hardware, software, chemistry, and sequencing applications
Author design verification test plans and oversee execution
Design experiments, analyze results and share findings through written reports and group presentations
Work effectively within a cross-functional project team

Troubleshoot and resolve system level performance issues

Lead integration teams on new product development

Required Education and Experience:
PhD in relevant field (Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biology, etc.) and at least 6 years experience in a related industry
BS/MS in relevant field and at least 14 years experience in a related industry

Complex system troubleshooting skills
A desire to be a part of a fast-paced, collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
A history of managing and coaching high performers to achieve even greater success

Wet laboratory experience

Preferred Education and Experience:
Understanding of sequencing technology and applications

Experience with laboratory automation

Capability to analyze large, complex datasets

Knowledge of software development process and interface design

Medical device development experience

History of leading teams in a matrix environment

Familiarity with design control process

Track record of innovation
