Arconic is currently in search of a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team at our Global Rolled Products (GRP) business unit located in Davenport, IA.

Nestled on the banks of the Mississippi River in Iowa, the plant employs 2,400 people and is a focal point of the global aluminum industry, with 25 percent of revenues coming from exports. Through continued modernization, including a $500 million investment over the past decade alone, Davenport has maintained its position as the world's premier aerospace supply plant and is today the hub of Alcoa's $3 billion aerospace business.

The Staff Mechanical Engineer will provide support and leadership to the Coil Finishing manufacturing and process areas. In this role, you will lead process improvement efforts slitters, tension level lines, continuous thermal lines, and continuous coating/chemical lines to improve equipment operation, product recovery, meeting customer specifications, and support product development.

Additional responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Support the operations and maintenance of the coil sheet lines to ensure equipment has proper maintenance plans to repetitively meet product specifications
  • Support the operations and maintenance of the coil sheet lines to ensure operations has proper work instructions to repetitively meet product specifications
  • Advise/counsel/lead failure analysis; participate in and lead problem solving teams, identification of root cause and solutions and organize support from other resources
  • Utilize technical knowledge-base and provide advanced technical guidance to ensure there is a thorough understanding of equipment and its effect on process and product quality
  • Provide technical solutions to recurring design, process and application problems
  • Maintain excellent working relationship with internal customers (such as: corporate technical resources, leadership teams, production, quality and maintenance resources) and external suppliers to ensure process improvement needs are understood and met
Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum five (5) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Basic understanding of web handling and slitting; tension control, trimming, slitting, winding, wrinkling, web breaks, steering/guiding
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility is required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is NOT available for this position
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience of manufacturing processes in web handling
  • Experience in mechanics of materials and mechanical roll design
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and work across departmental boundaries with cross-functional engineering, maintenance, and operations teams
  • Clear and concise communication skills (written and verbal)
