We are seeking a brilliant Staff Scientist to join the Consumables and Assay Development (CAD) team to lead characterization of critical reagents for on-market and proprietary microarray and sequencing platforms using biophysical techniques, biochemical assays, chromatography, and mass spectrometry. As a Staff Scientist, you are a technical expert working, within multi-disciplinary teams, as well as a collaborative team leader who will manage and mentor junior level scientists and research associates.

Responsibilities:

  • Direct the Development process to generate new and innovative products using the company's core technologies in a fast-paced environment
  • Lead cross-functional and cross-site development projects/subprojects and guide technical team to develop products aligning with roadmaps whilst making effective cost benefit tradeoffs
  • Guide and Mentor junior level scientists, delegating as appropriate to enable growth of the team
  • Manage goals and resources within defined target timeframes, and make decisions regarding priorities, goals, and progress of project
  • Own risk and critical parameter management and lead mitigation planning for an area of responsibility
  • Improve and introduce new biophysical techniques; optimizing products to achieve and exceed product requirements for stability, robustness, and performance.
  • Be accountable for the development of new analysis methods and workflows with responsibility for ensuring integration of chemistry with hardware and instrumentation.
  • Identify new opportunities for innovative products using the company's core technologies
  • Write reports and present results, project updates and troubleshooting assessments at all levels to enable informed business decisions

Required Skills and Experience:

  • PhD and 6+ years industrial experience in a scientific discipline or commercial environment is required
  • Proven track record of technical leadership
  • Sound understanding and working experience of biophysical techniques
  • Ability to translate corporate goals into executable R&D plans while understanding technical risks, mitigations, and alternatives
  • Strong background in the chemistry and biochemistry associated with sequencing or related technologies
  • Highly motivated, detailed individual with the proven ability to think innovatively toward solving technical problems effectively and efficiently
  • Able to work effectively under pressure to meet scheduled deadlines and handle multiple activities simultaneously
  • Excellent communication skills required to clearly explain complex issues, project progress and technical roadmaps to a variety of audiences across functions and levels
  • Proven data analysis and statistical interpretation skills of complex data sets
  • Willingness to learn new systems/methods/techniques

Preferred Skills and Expertise:

  • Understanding of product development, including assay optimization and reagent development
  • Integration, testing and transfer to production and documentation a plus
  • Experience with next generation sequencing, and in-depth understanding of ILMN sequencing at molecular level is an advantage
  • Experience with Design of Experiment (DOE) methodologies (i.e., JMP, Design Expert, etc.) desirable
  • Data analysis of large and complex data sets with programming / scripting abilities for streamlining data interpretation pipelines a plus
  • Experience of innovation through drafting patent applications desirable
