The role of the Strategic Account Manager (SAM) is to manage designated Elanco strategic accounts, and to grow the volume and range of Elanco products sold to these customers through building Elancos brand within Monogastrics and In-feed (Farm animal sector); specified business plan deliverables are to be achieved. This is to be achieved through innovative and strategic business decisions, building customer relationships, comprehensive B2B knowledge and interface, leveraging internal and external partnerships, delivering mutual value, and differentiating Elanco as a brand.

Functions, Duties, Tasks:

  • Deliver Profit Plan through selling the full portfolio of the Monogastic and In-feed product portfolio of (Vaccines, In-feed premixes and enzymes)
  • Deliver Innovative and strategic solutions to support and grow the Strategic Accounts
  • Responsible for developing integrated Customer plans to grow value /volume market share and Customer value, ensuring differentiation of the Elanco brand, becoming #1 Value Contributor
  • Maintaining, managing and communicating Customer account plans and scorecards, within his/her control
  • Working in a boots to boardroom environment, being comfortable to communicate and work with Customers at all levels of the organisation
  • Responsible for regular feedback to Customer on status of targets set in the account plans with regular reviews, both of past customer performance and future expectations
  • Through teamwork, and the exemplary use of Customer Value selling skills, demonstrate the Elanco brand, by setting expectations and delivering value for both organisations (Customer and Elanco)
  • Completing, according to company policy, full CRM reporting requirements
  • Managing product portfolio, launches, pricing and promotional activity in the accounts
  • Managing product forecasting for each account to optimise Elanco procurement and stock levels, and to ensure availability to meet customer requirements; providing related communication pre S&OP meeting and to the customer
  • Identify, coordinate, assist and execute value added projects linked to customer needs. Ensuring value creation and project delivery to the Customer
  • Coordinating support functions (Elanco Knowledge Solutions, Marketing, Technical & Training etc.)and ensuring roles and expectations are clearly defined.
  • Work closely with the internal team, and having the ability to display leadership, influence, delegation by pulling together of resources where appropriate.
  • Ability to be able to hold themselves and others to account without having direct line responsibility

Minimum Qualification (education, experience and/or training, required certifications):

  • Bachelors degree / Diploma preference for Agricultural, Life Science and Veterinary Science
  • Experience of Biology/Animal Health/or similar
  • A proven track record in sales and or / account management in sales within the Animal Health sector (Preferably Poultry, Swine and In-feeds) will be an advanta

Additional Preferences:

  • Ability to answer on- label technical queries from vets and producers, conducting diagnostic work as well as running any pharmacovigilance investigations.
  • The ability to engage with and influence external stakeholders from farm managers and agricultural staff to commercial decision makers and Veterinary Surgeons.
  • Flexibility to participate in evening and/or weekend programs with customers.
  • The successful incumbent will be required to travel overnight-regionally; nationally and/or internationally as and when required by the business.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to coordinate others without direct line responsibility through daily demonstration of the Elanco values and culture.
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal (English)
  • Organisational skills and time management skills
  • Computer literate high level to include data entry and analytical skills
  • Full South African driving license
