We are seeking a Surgical Services Equipment Coordinator to:



  • Be responsible for the Surgical Services computer supply/implant management system, including reporting and maintaining supply/implant databases and charges. To manage equipment and facilities within Surgical Services, and be a contact for the Operating Room internal and external customers relating to the above services. This includes Nursing Staff, Surgeons, Fiscal Affairs, Central Services, Hospital Information Services, Purchasing, Plant Services, Vendors, and Service Representatives.

  • Use their clinical training as a Surgical Techto make judgment calls regarding the appropriate use and purchase of supplies and implants. Examples include, but are not limited to, comparing products and their use for specific clinical procedures, working with vendors to make sure clinical needs are met in equipment purchases, etc.

  • Maintain knowledge of new clinical approaches to identify equipment needed for non-routine surgeries, initiate a plan of acquisition as needed, and set inventory levels. After acquisition of new products and equipment, schedule and facilitate or perform the necessary in-services for staff education.

  • Utilize various computer systems including Health Link and Optime, PeopleSoft, ORMIS/EPIC, Alex Gold, Business Objects, Microsoft Office and other UWHC software programs to perform the reporting and analysis associated with the management of all the equipment.

  • Assist the Manager with the preparation of the supplies and expense budgets, and help explain monthly budget variance reports.Also, work with surgeons and staff to evaluate equipment needsand assist with preparing the annual capital equipment budget.

  • Work with Plant Engineering to assure that repairs are performed and that clinical procedures are not disrupted. Also, be a resource to the Nursing and Surgical Tech staff incharting and charging of the implants, supplies and equipment.

  • Act as a consultant and clinical resource to staff through provision of patient care and coordination of that care. Strictly adhere to all policy and procedures, and assist in developing and enforcing them.

  • Demonstrate effective patient care, leadership, professional behavior, good problem solving, decision making, and communication skills when dealing with internal and external customers.Every aspect of this position is directed toward quality patient care and working with satisfied customers in a fiscally responsible manner.

Education:



Minimum High School Diploma



Preferred Completion of surgical technician program or other applicable certifications and/or degrees.



Work Experience:



Minimum One-year applicable experience in a healthcare setting.



Preferred Three (3) years experience in an operating room healthcare setting or perioperative environment.



Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:



Mastery of Surgical Services software.



Mastery of Excel spreadsheets.



In-depth knowledge of materials acquisition.



Strong communication skills and guest relations.



Physical Requirements:



Medium: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.



Work Schedule:



100% FTE, 40 hours per week. Scheduled shifts are 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday with occasional after hours or weekend work required for special projects. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department.
