Job Description

The JHSS Training & Development Content Specialist is responsible for leading the development, administration, and engagement of virtual training content through JHSS' learning management platforms. This Content Specialist will also be relied upon to facilitate training events in certain cases. This individual will collaborate with businessunit managers, subject matter experts, and existing JHSS Training & Development team members to identify needs and content resources before developing a roadmap for modernizing our training & development approach.

Individual Accountabilities:

  • Work directly with training liaisons including the existing Training & Development team, business unit managers/subject matter experts (SMEs), and Learning Management System (LMS) vendors to design, plan, and execute virtual training and/or enrichment programs/events.
  • Lead overall virtual program offering by designing innovative, effective, and engaging virtual program materials incorporating adult learning theory
  • Identify existing virtual content that may be repurposed for virtual training and enrichment learning programs/events.
  • Administration of learning and engagement platforms including Lessonly and Axonify
  • Research and recommend new training technologies when necessary
  • Acts as a mentor for new associates including Training & Development interns
  • Conduct training needs, skill gap analyses, and advises on deliverables and deadlines
  • Consult with business partners to provide cost effective, timely and appropriate learning situations and solutions
  • Build relationships with counterparts in other John Hancock business units
  • Support the development and maintenance of training documentation such as leaders' guides, presentations/slide decks and training activities.
  • Act as a change agent for strategic initiatives within the business unit, ensuring successful implementation of training-related deliverables.
  • Support and improve upon the administration and distribution of the bi-monthly JHSS Wrap-Up communication through content identification, creation, and editing
  • Identify metrics and develop reporting related to our training modernization approach and engagement efforts
  • Provide backup training facilitation support to other team members when necessary
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements & Capabilities:

  • Post-secondary graduation or the equivalent work experience
  • At least 2 years' experience in a customer service environment, with at least 1-year experience in the financial services industry
  • Facilitation and presentation experience, comfortable presenting in front of large and small audiences
  • Self-starter that can work independently
  • Critical thinking / analytical skills & demonstrated attention to detail
  • Strong organizational, time management, and administrative skills
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Familiarity in needs analysis, job analysis, performance development and curriculum development.
  • Ability to diagnose and recommend training solutions based on business objectives and initiatives.
  • Ability to provide professional judgment in evaluating and recommending training options, tactics and programs
  • Change agent - ability to be flexible and adaptable when dealing with change by sponsoring and implementing the necessary changes
  • Extensive knowledge of business unit systems, processes, and all functional business areas
  • Excellent presentation and facilitation skills as well as written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent time management skills where multiple large projects are successfully managed within
  • Ability to create and maintain strong working relationships with all levels of employees

Decision Authorities:

  • Proposing changes to training and project timelines and content for internal clients based on changing business needs. Changes require approval from the business unit and training liaison.
  • Recommending training technology based on knowledge of various training applications and training content, and business need
  • Recommending curriculum design/re-design based on participant performance and facilitator feedback
