We are currently seeking a Vice President, Talent Acquisition to work from our corporate headquarters in Lisle, IL.

The VP Talent Acquisition owns the talent acquisition vision and roadmap balancing quality, compliance and speed and is a strong promoter of diverse talent.

The primary purpose of this role is to strategically drive acquisition of human capital to meet resource needs across our North American business. This position directly manages the Corporate Talent Acquisition team which recruits for Corporate, Maintenance and Field Staff talent and will oversee Driver and Monitor recruitment in the field. The role will also oversee the Centralized Adjudication team which ensures compliance to all Company hiring standards. Finally, the position will manage key recruitment vendor relationships to ensure alignment, performance and long-term success.

This role will operate in a dynamic environment with a rapidly changing workforce through a combination of progressive strategic thinking and tactical "roll-up-your-sleeves" talent acquisition contributions.


  • Sets high standards for change around process, behaviors and culture relating to leadership, maintenance, staff, driver and monitor recruitment throughout the organization.
  • Partner with senior leadership across the business to understand business priorities and provide strategic insights as an expert resource in talent acquisition.
  • Partners with senior operations leaders to understand and ensure delivery of driver recruiting priorities while serving as the liaison between these key stakeholders and the region recruiting team
  • Manages the Driver Staffing Report processes on a weekly basis (analysis of data, communication on key improvement areas and assisting regions identify avenues to improve overall driver staffing numbers)
  • Provides a consistent approach to developing sourcing and recruitment strategies to implement across the Student and Transit businesses to support the driver staffing needs in the organization.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of the value of creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workforce and collaborates with leaders to develop and deploy initiatives that broaden our outreach to diverse, qualified candidates.
  • Ensure broad representation of qualified candidates that will lead to a diverse employee population.
  • Builds and updates job description library to ensure consistency of use across organization.
  • Guide leaders, recruiters and hiring managers on how to intervene and address situations that are not in line with inclusive hiring.
  • Participates in the development, implementation and administration of creative and strategic processes and tools affecting driver recruitment and retention.
  • Ensure all selection assessment tools are used and provide expertise and guidance around evaluation, measurement and selection and monitor the validity of the assessment against actual performance of selected employees.
  • Explores the market best practices in driver staffing and implement appropriate best practices in the organization
  • Provides guidance and leadership to region recruitment team members, determines appropriate problem resolution activities and escalates when necessary
  • Ensure TA and HR teams attract and hire top-quality talent through the use of company recruitment tools and processes.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with universities, colleges and trade schools to establish a pipeline of junior level talent.
  • Drives the Manager in Training and internship programs including candidate vetting and selection process.
  • Holds TA teams accountable to the timely recruitment of talent including implementing progressive search strategies, ATS, creatively negotiating compensation packages
  • Ensures candidates are assessed in relation to the identified Company hiring standards and appropriate role criteria
  • Utilizes measurement and reporting systems to evaluate the quality, quantity and appropriateness of the design and delivery of all pre-employment staffing programs and initiatives.
  • Provides regular reports, dashboards and metrics to senior operations leaders.
  • Creates executive onboarding plans top leaders joining the organization
  • Manages third-party service providers to ensure success of all pre-employment sourcing and screening programs (LinkedIn, Indeed, HireRight, Employee Safety Inventory, Wonscore, Caliper and Vantage Assessment services).
  • Leading and driving continuous improvement in Talent Acquisition

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field; Master's degree preferred; SPHR certification preferred
  • 10-12 years of HR leadership experience in a multi-location environment
  • Functional knowledge of full cycle non-exempt and exempt recruitment process
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities; sound judgment
  • Ability to successfully manage a large and complex recruiting organization
  • High learning agility and demonstrated ability to think out of the box and find innovative solutions to traditional problems by doing more than filling jobs
  • Proven organization skills; ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple tasks in an environment with competing demands
  • Exceptional research skills and resourcefulness
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to manage a large and variable work load, ensuring timely and accurate completion of assigned work
  • Ability to work independently with exceptional organizational skills and a high attention to detail
  • Ability to efficiently manage time and prioritize assignments in a fast paced, dynamic environment
  • Experience working within the broader HR function, such as in a generalist or HR business partner role strongly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to senior leaders with a strong executive presence required.
  • Track record of attracting, developing, and retaining strong talent along with a clear and demonstrated ability to build strong and effective teams of people with complementary skills.
  • Experience leading initiatives for both part-time and full-time employees in a company with at least 10,000 employees
  • Strong knowledge of regulations and legislation governing hiring standards in both the U.S. and Canada
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and HR technology solution
