Abrasives Inc. is a North American supplier of industrial abrasive blasting media and surface preparation solutions. Employee-owned and customer-focused, we support contractors, manufacturers, and asset owners with high-quality abrasives, equipment, parts, consumables with technical expertise, and dependable logistics. Our product offering includes Black Magic® coal slag, garnet, crushed glass, steel media, and specialty abrasives, available in bagged, bulk, and super-sack formats. Serving customers directly and through distribution, Abrasives Inc. partners with customers to improve productivity, control costs, and deliver consistent surface preparation results across a wide range of industries.
Company History
Origins – Sand & Gravel
Abrasives Inc. began as a regional sand and gravel operation near Elgin, ND with a product called Dakota Gold that was mined, cleaned and graded for use in sandblasting operations and on golf courses. This foundation built deep expertise in aggregates, logistics, and material performance.
Expansion into Abrasives
As surface preparation and industrial coating markets grew, the company expanded into abrasive blasting media, leveraging its aggregate knowledge to deliver consistent, high-quality products, Our attention turned to coal slag, as the concern for the use of sand in blasting operations grew. Abrasives was able to establish long term contracts with the producers of our source material (coal slag) based in North Dakota (i.e., Power Plants) and we developed Black Magic and it became our preferred blast media while we established relationships with other media suppliers.
Growth & Diversification
Abrasives Inc. broadened its product offerings, added processing and distribution capabilities, and expanded its geographic reach to better serve contractors, manufacturers, and distributors.
Employee Ownership
The company transitioned to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), aligning long-term success with the people who run the business every day.
