Company History

Centrally located in Knoxville, Arkansas, we are a manufacturer of custom automated handling equipment for a multitude of critical industries. The major markets that we serve include brick and block, pipe and tube, carbon electrode, among many other areas of automation. We have the ability to turnkey design, build, program, test, ship, and install any size project.

CAM, Inc. has a long history in equipment building, tracing its beginnings back to 1927, when John Cline founded Clarksville Machine Works, Inc., in Clarksville, Arkansas. In those days, the flagship product was a machine that automatically cut staves (slats) for large, wooden barrels. Later, during the 1960s, customers from the food industry contracted with CMW, Inc. to make hydrocoolers for the supercooling processes required to transport fresh produce. The 1970s brought about the inclusion of the brick industry with the addition of the design and fabrication of many automation systems in the production of residential and commercial brick.

Throughout the years, and many iterations of company structure and management, key employees remained true to their goals of designing the best automated equipment that they could produce. Since then this group of highly talented engineers and managers have been instrumental in providing excellent equipment and these process solutions to a variety of industries now for over thirty years, most recently under the new company, Custom Automated Manufacturing, Inc., founded in 2014, using the same talent and building an even higher standard of excellence than ever before. Also, to ensure the longevity of this organization, as opportunities and key employees express interest, the future of the company is being designed and developed for future growth.

The birth of CAM, Inc. represents the culmination of all the lessons learned by this group, along with many talented organizations and individuals that currently comprise this lean, expertly designed corporation. It is the classic model of an adhocracy, meaning a very lean, project oriented, easily adaptable, structure that transforms along with the needs of the various projects which are highly scrutinized for practicality, efficiency, safety, as well as meeting production targets. There is a consistent core of key individuals that specify the requirements for every individual project and based on this assessment, our subcontractor partners are identified and brought into the fold for the duration of the project – from inception to the completion of the installation and on-site training. This is our process and it has proven to be the most efficient for all our customer partners and subcontractors. To date, we have completed over 1,000 projects in 12 short years!

It is this design that allows CAM, Inc. to be so fiscally stable and able to handle the financial requirements of some of the large projects that we have already accomplished in our short history. We are a very careful, diligent, and purposeful management team, always looking for ways to serve our customers in the very best way for the very least investment without sacrificing a single element of quality in our machines. We build great machines!

We were recognized in 2023 as one of the top 4 Best Products in Arkansas by the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and in 2024, CAM, Inc. was selected as the only official integrator for FANUC Industrial Robots for the State. We would love for you to visit and see who we are – one of the best kept secrets in Arkansas!
