Position Summary
The Assistant Director of Training is an essential member of the CAPS /Fontaine Center leadership team. Reporting to the Sr. Associate Director of Clinical Services and Training, this leadership position's primary focus will be on the continued development and implementation of a strategic vision for, and oversight of, all the aspects of the various training programs offered at CAPS , including our American Psychological Association ( APA ) accredited doctoral internship program, and our Advanced Doctoral practicum and Social Work practicum programs.
In addition, this position will provide direct services to students and provide oversight of all supervision of our trainees in their various levels of training. In collaboration with other members of the CAPS /Fontaine Leadership team, this position ensures compliance with Joint Commission Standards; engages in multidisciplinary consultation teams; creatively develops cutting-edge training opportunities; and assists in monitoring client assignment and referral.
Additional Requirements
UHC Minimum:
- Doctorate in Psychology from an APA accredited program and completion of an APA accredited internship (or equivalent).
- Licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Georgia by the date of first employment.
- Four years of experience in evaluation and treatment of individuals whose age and psychological development are like those of our population (i.e. late adolescence through middle age) is required.
Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
UHC Preferred:
- Two years of experience in an administrative or supervisory role.
- Three years of experience providing clinical supervision within a formal training program.
- One year of experience directing or coordinating practicum student, intern, and/or post-doctoral fellow training.
- Four or more years of experience in the evaluation and treatment of individuals whose age and psychological development are similar to traditional and non-traditional college students.
- AHA Heartsaver CPR / AED certification required after start date.
- Background working with disorders typically seen at university counseling centers.
- Background working in a multidisciplinary setting.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Strong leadership and management skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
- Effective verbal and written communications skills and the ability to work well with multi-disciplinary teams.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance related to confidentiality including HIPAA , FERPA , state, federal and university/system wide guidelines.
- Ability to work effectively with students from all backgrounds.
- Advanced knowledge of theory and research on clinical supervision and training.
- Advanced skills in the delivery of group and individual clinical supervision.
- Ability to engage in data-informed decision-making, knowledge of current trends in collegiate mental health services, ability to develop, implement, and evaluate models of clinical training
- Demonstrated knowledge of issues challenging the well-being of college students.
- Training and skills in providing telehealth services.
- Familiarity with short-term models of treatment.
- Ability to work with an electronic health record.
- Knowledge and/or interest in preventative mental health education and outreach programs.

Ability to transport light weight equipment (computer and program materials) across campus and to offsite presentations. Able to sit for extended periods of time. Vision corrected to utilize an electronic health record.

Leadership, Program Development and Management:
- Develop, implement, and oversee all aspects of training, including our American Psychological Association ( APA ) accredited doctoral internship program, and our Advanced Doctoral practicum and Social Work practicum programs. Oversee adherence to APA accreditation standards, and developing and adjusting training schedules as needed.
- Provide managerial support for the CAPS /Fontaine Center Leadership team in the overall management and administration of all services and participate in general policy development for the CAPS /Fontaine Center.
- Provide executive oversight for the Sr. Associate Director and the Assistant Director of Mental Health Services with the integration of trainees and training curricula into all clinical services. Acquire and manage feedback regarding staff performance and complete timely annual evaluations for their direct reports.
- Advise and monitor clinical oversight of daily operations.
- Actively promote and facilitate the development, retention & engagement of each staff member.

Duties/Responsibilities
Direct Client Service:
- Provide age-appropriate direct client care and support services, including clinical evaluation and counseling/psychotherapy to eligible members of the UGA community
- Consistent with UHC & CAPS Policy & Procedure manuals, develop idiosyncratic treatment plan based on an investigation of empirically supported treatment options, make appropriate referrals, and accurately document treatment provided.
- Participate in a rotational on-call duty to assist students in crisis and following up on outside emergency care.
