Description
OverviewFull-time assistant superintendent opportunity at Contra Costa Country Club in Pleasant Hill, California. This leadership role offers the chance to grow within a Troon-managed private club environment and develop toward becoming a Golf Course Superintendent. The club is investing in its golf facilities, maintenance operation, and long-term future, and seeks a motivated individual to help shape the maintenance program.
Experience Required
- Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field.
- Experience as an Assistant Superintendent, Second Assistant Superintendent, Spray Technician, Foreman, or another golf course maintenance leadership role ready to take the next step.
- California Qualified Applicator License (QAL) or Qualified Applicator Certificate (QAC), or the ability to obtain either within six months of hire.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Passion for developing people and producing exceptional playing conditions.
- Cover letter required; portfolio optional.
Essential Responsibilities
- Take ownership of the daily planning, scheduling, and execution of golf course maintenance operations while leading, mentoring, and developing 25+ team members.
- Assist with irrigation management, fertilizer and pesticide applications, cultural practices, tournament preparation, and course setup.
- Work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Co-Assistant Superintendent to develop and implement short- and long-term agronomic plans.
- Participate in Green Committee meetings.
- Gain exposure to budgeting, capital planning, and strategic decision-making.
- Take ownership of projects and contribute ideas that improve course conditions and departmental operations.
- Attend local and national educational opportunities, conferences, and industry events.
- Receive mentorship and increasing responsibility designed to prepare for the next career step.
