Chapman and Cutler LLP is seeking a Benefits Assistant to join our collaborative Human Resources team. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals who are dedicated to providing exceptional support, enjoy managing detailed administrative tasks, and are interested in developing their expertise in employee benefits and wellness within a professional, client-focused setting. The role includes assisting with benefits enrollment, responding to employee inquiries, maintaining accurate records, and supporting compliance with benefits policies and procedures. The position requires an in-office presence but includes flexibility for some remote work.
The responsibilities of the Benefits Assistant will include:
- Provides timely and accurate responses to staff and attorney benefits inquiries regarding eligibility, enrollment, plan offerings and provisions, status changes, and other general items.
- Supports new-hire benefits orientations and employee transitions (new hires, terminations, qualifying life events).
- Processes benefits paperwork, including new-hire enrollments, terminations, and qualifying life events.
- Provides administrative support during the annual open enrollment process, including developing communications and presentation materials.
- Liaises with benefits vendors and providers, as needed, to resolve employee issues.
- Assists in drafting clear and comprehensive benefits communications materials.
- Assists with implementing benefits and wellness activities, such as wellness webinars, biometric screenings, benefits fairs, flu shots, and other special events, as needed.
- Processes vendor invoices and ensures timely and accurate remittance of payments.
- Maintains and updates employee benefits records in the HRIS system.
- Coordinates calendar management and conference room scheduling, when applicable, for benefits and wellness meetings and events.
- Provides general HR support, serves as backup to the HR Assistant, and assists with projects as needed.
- Completes special projects, as assigned by Benefits leadership.
- Preforms other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree or Associate’s degree plus additional benefits related experience, preferably in a professional services or law firm environment.
- The ideal candidate will have zero (0) to two (2) years of prior experience in a professional environment; preference is given to those with prior law firm experience
- Proficiency working with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint is required
- Functions effectively in a fast-paced environment while prioritizing, managing, and meeting deadlines
- Superior organizational and proofreading skills; detail-oriented
- Thrives in a team-oriented environment, is self-motivated, and willingly takes initiative and offers assistance
- Committed to a high level of client/customer service
- Exercises excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Committed to following all Firm security protocols and maintaining information security
In accordance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Law, the expected salary range for this Illinois position is $45,000-$55,000. The benefits overview for this position is available for review at the below link.
