Arnold & Porter is seeking a Business Development Manager to support the growth of its International Arbitration and International Trade practices, as well as broader cross-border initiatives across priority global markets. This role may be located in our New York or Washington, DC office.
The Business Development Manager serves as a strategic partner to practice leaders and senior attorneys, driving business development initiatives that expand client relationships, generate new opportunities, and strengthen the firm’s international market position. This role plays a central part in advancing the firm’s global growth strategy, and the BDM will bring a strong understanding of global markets and regulatory environments.. As a key liaison between the practices and the Marketing Department, this role collaborates across teams to deliver sophisticated, client-focused solutions and advance firmwide priorities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Business Development
Partner with practice chairs and working group leaders to develop and execute international business development strategies
Identify market trends, client opportunities, and cross-border growth areas
Drive cross-practice and cross-regional collaboration to expand client relationships
Global & Regional Market Support
Support business development efforts across priority international markets, tailoring strategies and materials to local dynamics
Leverage market intelligence and client insights to position the firm effectively in global markets
Pitches, Proposals & Client Engagement
Lead the development of high-impact pitches and RFP responses, aligning client needs with the firm’s value proposition
Coach partners and senior attorneys for client meetings and presentations
Lateral Integration & Client Development
Support the integration of lateral partners through targeted client planning and coordinated business development strategies
Data, Reporting & Budget Management
Develop and manage practice group budgets and track ROI on business development initiatives
Utilize CRM and other tools to track activity, support client targeting, and inform decision-making
Marketing & Profile-Raising Initiatives
Oversee development of global marketing collateral in collaboration with Marketing Communications
Coordinate webinars, client events, and international conferences
Lead strategy and execution of directory and award submissions, including Chambers
Identify and support media and profile-raising opportunities, including PR, sponsorships, and speaking engagements
Team Leadership
Supervise and mentor junior business development team members
Provide guidance on pitches, proposals, directory submissions, and marketing materials
Contribute to a collaborative, high-performing team environment
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus
Minimum of 6 years of business development or marketing experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment
Strong understanding of cross-border business development, global markets, and regulatory environments
Fluency in Spanish or another major language strongly preferred
Exceptional writing and communication skills
Proven ability to manage complex projects and multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Strong client service orientation and ability to build credibility with senior stakeholders
Experience with CRM systems, experience management tools (e.g., Foundation), and AI-enabled tools preferred
Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
Ability to handle a variety of tasks simultaneously

The anticipated base salary for this position is $128,000 to $180,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.

The firm may provide a discretionary bonus annually.
