What Your Job Will Be Like
The Strategic Firing Subsystems department (7625) is seeking a highly motivated electronics technologist to work in a high-consequence environment critical to the nation's national security. You will be part of a team of technologists operating in multiple electromechanical and high voltage laboratories supporting the design, development, testing, qualification, and surveillance of firing subsystems, and other high-consequence ND components. These systems are used every day in U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force nuclear weapons and other national security programs.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Support the fabrication, population and testing of proto-boards, breadboards, cables, adaptors, and printed circuit boards with high voltage components and small discrete electrical components
- Troubleshoot electronic hardware and re-work boards to correct defects in designs or replace faulty components
- Perform cable fabrication and repair
- Design and/or build test equipment to validate hardware performance
- Work from engineering drawings, schematics, and written or verbal instructions
- Operate equipment, conduct tests, and report data in a prescribed format
- Perform environmental testing of electronic and electromechanical systems
- Analyze test data and recommend/implement system improvements
- Oversee laboratory equipment repair and calibration
- Create and maintain environmental, safety, and health related documentation
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range
$63,800 - $123,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- High school diploma; or equivalent
- Experience soldering and operating laboratory electrical equipment such as power supplies, waveform generators, digital multi-meters and/or oscilloscopes
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- Bachelor's or Associate's degree in electronics or electrical/computer engineering
- Active IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, IPC-7711/7721, and/or J-STD-001 certifications
- Experience working with high voltage components or systems
- Ability to troubleshoot printed circuit assemblies and read schematics
- Experience working in Nuclear Deterrence and/or DoD weapons programs
- Ability to clearly communicate both technical and non-technical information.
- Ability to work on cross-organizational/multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask with competing priorities

Posting Duration

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
