Job Description:
Reporting to the Mechanical & Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician I is responsible for maintaining and operating all electrical equipment and systems, and facilities of the University. Includes supporting project work both in facilities and capital projects, and emergency response
for fire systems and other life safety system related issues as called upon.
This position is considered an essential position for emergency response.
Electrical Distribution
Perform work related to the maintenance, repair and operation of the electrical distribution systems throughout the campus as directed.
Identify and report critical system or operational deficiencies found in the normal course of work.
Equipment and Lighting
Provide maintenance, installation, support, and repair of mechanically or electrically powered equipment and lighting as directed.
Notify of energy saving opportunities due to poor performing or outdated equipment or fixtures.
Voltage Systems
Provide maintenance, installation and repair of all voltage distribution systems including low voltage, fire alarm systems and accessories as directed.
Support enforcement of codes and standards such as NFPA 70B, 2026 NEC, RILFSC, and OSHA, as they apply.
Additional Functions
The Electrician I may provide direction to the Electricians Apprentice, or Electricians Journeyman, depending on license, as it pertains to the specific electrical job.
This is a full-time (40-hour) Facilities Management Union position.
$500 signing bonus after a 4-month probationary period is completed

Job Requirements:
Must have a minimum of a current journeyman's license (Rhode Island).
5 years experience in a commercial environment.
Must possess current technical knowledge of electrical and fire alarm systems.
Perform any and all tasks required of the position without assistance and in a timely manner.
This position is considered an essential position for emergency response.
OSHA 10 Certification preferred.
Attendance of job related training and certification classes as assigned.
At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be accepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
