Description
POSITION PURPOSE: The Guest Services Representative serves as the first point of contact for recreation center patrons and supports safe, welcoming, and efficient daily facility operations. This position provides accurate information about programs, memberships, rentals, and facility policies; processes registrations and payments; assists with facility access and guest needs; and helps maintain a clean, organized, and customer-focused recreation environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Greet patrons, guests, and visitors in person and by phone; provide friendly, accurate information regarding recreation programs, memberships, facility amenities, rentals, schedules, fees, policies, and procedures.
- Process daily admissions, memberships, program registrations, facility reservations, equipment checkouts, and related transactions using recreation management and point-of-sale systems.
- Collect fees, issue receipts, balance assigned cash drawer, and complete daily reconciliation or deposit documentation in accordance with established cash-handling procedures.
- Monitor facility access and guest activity to support safety, security, and compliance with recreation center rules, policies, and procedures.
- Respond to patron questions, concerns, and routine complaints in a professional manner; refer complex or escalated matters to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with opening and closing procedures, daily checklists, attendance counts, room set-ups, equipment organization, and regular facility walk-throughs.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of front desk, lobby, common areas, equipment, and other assigned spaces; report maintenance, safety, or equipment concerns promptly.
- Support recreation programs, rentals, special events, and other facility operations as assigned.
- Maintain accurate records, forms, waivers, rosters, account information, and other administrative documentation.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
JOB QUALIFICATIONS – KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be at least 16 years old.
- Previous customer service, recreation, cash-handling experience preferred; equivalent training or experience may be considered.
- Ability to provide courteous, inclusive, and professional service to people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to answer questions clearly and de-escalate routine concerns.
- Ability to use basic office equipment, computers, email, phones, and recreation registration or point-of-sale software.
- Ability to accurately handle payments, receipts, records, and confidential patron information.
- Ability to follow policies, procedures, schedules, checklists, and supervisor direction with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a busy public facility.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification preferred or required within 90 days of hire.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: High school diploma or GED preferred. Current high school students may be considered if they meet minimum age requirements and can successfully perform the essential duties of the position.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Work may take place in both indoor and outdoor environments, with exposure to varying weather conditions including sun, heat, cold, snow, and humidity.
- Noise levels range from moderate to loud, often due to active children, group interactions, or busy transportation settings.
- The position may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals, chemically treated water, or other environmental irritants.
- Work may occur in environments with poor acoustics, distractions, or high activity levels.
- Some tasks will be performed in wet, humid, or damp environments, such as pools or aquatic facilities.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, or sit on the floor as needed during activities or tasks.
- Ability to reach, grasp, and handle small objects, tools, or equipment with precision.
- Requires adequate hearing to recognize and respond to sounds, signals, or distress in a variety of environments.
- Duties may require sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, bending, or stooping for extended periods of time.
- Ability to monitor participants, ensure safety, and respond to signals or emergencies.
- Ability to react quickly and appropriately to the physical needs or emergencies of children or participants.
- Ability to communicate effectively, including speaking loudly, when necessary, in noisy or outdoor environments.
