Description
Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties related to maintenance of Metro’s facilities. Works under the direction of a supervisor.
Examples of Duties
- Cleans wastewater plant equipment such as clarifiers, basins, tanks, trenches, Coanda’s, compactors, and vaults in preparation for preventative maintenance and regular operations. Involves the use of hydraulic and Weir pumps, hoses, ladders, fall protection, and other equipment as needed. May perform acid injection into aeration basin diffusers.
- Assists in high-pressure hosing, jetting, and vac projects. Includes strenuous activities, following safety procedures, and communicates well with team members.
- Responsible for moving chemicals such as polymers from delivery to storage areas. Moves chemicals to specific designated locations throughout the plant for normal operational usage. Operates light and heavy equipment such as forklifts and tractors.
- Assists in emergency spill response including raw sewage. Follow proper safety spill response procedures. Must maintain respirator protection training and pass fit testing annually.
- Required to perform heavy lifting (and team lifting) during equipment set up/removal.
- Performs safety activities such as traffic control, hot work, fall prevention and frequently performs and facilitates work in confined spaces. Performs hand signals and rigging for crane and hoisting operations and equipment positioning.
- Performs regular cleaning and maintenance on wastewater treatment structures, interceptor facilities and equipment including process buildings. Cleans Metro facilities such as metering vaults and diversion structures with a trailer mounted pressure washer and mild detergents. Includes drain work and drain bypassing when needed.
- Services and cleans automotive vehicles, pressure washers, sprayers, and other equipment. Includes checking and maintaining proper fluid levels and lubrication of moving parts and wearing surfaces.
- Performs routine pickup and delivery of materials for Metro.
- Assists with the jetting of storm and sanitary sewers when needed.
- Operates computers to receive work assignments/information and report work progress.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Safety methods, processes, and procedures.
- Equipment operation and mechanical work.
- Industrial facility/plant maintenance or water/wastewater treatment plant maintenance.
- General office processes and procedures including MS Office software.
- Industrial spill response procedures.
- Confined space practices and procedures.
Skilled at:
- Operation of light equipment and mechanical maintenance.
- Industrial cleaning techniques and processes.
- Utilizing technology to seek and share resources and information.
Ability to:
- Work safely in a group with supervision.
- Read and follow procedures, manuals, Safety Data Sheet precautions, parts breakdowns and work order directions.
- Perform heavy lifting and strenuous pushing and pulling on a regular basis.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Perform effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Education, License, and Certifications
Graduation from high school or GED. Valid driver’s license. Valid forklift certification. Must be fit tested annually.
