At FCDO Services we protect the UK’s interests at home and overseas. We design and construct secure government buildings and courier diplomatic packages worldwide, safeguard government tech and a whole lot more. Our work is as varied and vital as it gets, but we never lose sight of our people. Their skills, aspirations and growth mean as much as the global mission we’re on. In our world, it all matters.
Our Knowledge and Information team has a wide range of responsibilities – these include reviewing and transferring records for preservation at The National Archives. The growth in digital records means the team are embracing the use of AI and other advanced technologies to tackle the complex challenges we face. The work is vital and protects the UK’s relations with other countries, as well as our defence interests, the intelligence services, and the personal data of individuals, all within a secure legal framework.
Preserving important records.
Protecting secure data.
Embracing new technologies.
It all matters.
Deliver our global organisation’s knowledge and information policies
When you join our unique and collaborative team in this challenging, high-profile role, it will be your task to create, maintain and support the delivery of our organisation’s information policies. This work will include information and records management, information sharing, information legislation, intellectual property and the use of data repositories. You will build important networks as you provide expert advice and support on the implementation of knowledge and information management to a diverse range of colleagues and stakeholders. You’ll also focus on the development of robust and efficient information architecture for our data repositories.
Key to your success will be your ability to conduct audits that monitor and measure compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements, and the championing of good knowledge and information management throughout our organisation. We’ll also expect you to manage our paper and digital records, transfer any relevant documents to the National Archive, and attend conferences on behalf of the business. This is a role where you’ll have the opportunity to meet people from many other government departments, build networks and promote the importance of good knowledge and information management throughout our global organisation.
Use all your technical skills as you work to defend the UK’s security interests
To be a success in this significant role you should possess a relevant RQF Level 3 qualification, a Foundation Certificate in Information Governance, or an IT/computing qualification. It’s important that you have substantial experience of content management systems and databases. In addition to technical knowledge of organising information (including taxonomies, dictionaries and glossaries, meta-tagging and standards) you’ll have a practical understanding of all the relevant policies and procedures.
Your exceptional attention to detail will see you drafting high quality reports, interpreting data and presenting your findings to a number of different audiences. A confident speaker with the ability to develop relationships with people at all levels, you should also have plenty of fresh, innovative ideas, be ready to develop creative initiatives, and be skilled at embedding processes. Practitioner level CSEG KIM Accreditation would be desirable, as would some knowledge of FCDO Services’ business. As a self-motivated and inspirational manager, you’ll be ready to lead your colleagues on a journey of continuous development and improvement.
