What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking a Mechanical Technologist, 3D Printing Specialist, to join our NM 3D Print Group in Department 2966.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Managing and maintaining the various 3D Printers in the lab
- Creating and delivering high quality 3D products to the various internal customers at SNL that are on time and at/or under budget.
- Advise management on potential improvements to 3D Printer Designs
- Collaborate effectively with designers, researchers, engineers, product managers, software vendors, and other team members
- Stays current with new technologies and industry trends and best practices and researches and evaluates new 3D Print technologies.
Salary Range
$63,800 - $123,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- High school diploma plus 3 years or more of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with:
- Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)
- Experience using basic hand tools (e.g. picks, screwdrivers, hammers, etc.)
- Ability to obtain a Q Clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- Associate's degree in Mechanical Technology or Electronics Technology field of study
- Experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electronic and/or mechanical systems
- Experience coordinating and executing activity level work
- Familiarity with Environmental Safety and Health Policies and Procedures
- Experience handling classified material
About Our Team
The NM 3D Print Group supports national security programs by providing expert 3D printing resources and services. Partnering with engineering teams, we develop innovative solutions through additive manufacturing. The NM 3D Print Lab delivers high-quality, rapid 3D printed parts and assemblies directly from CAD files, aiding product design across the labs. Services include solid model creation, STL file repair, post-processing, and building realistic parts with inserts and hardware. This work accelerates innovation by enabling design validation, testing, training, and communication, allowing design teams to focus on engineering while the NM 3D Print Lab handles prototyping efficiently.
Posting Duration

Security Clearance
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
