Patrol Officer – City of Rochester
The City of Rochester is seeking dedicated and community-focused individuals to serve as Patrol Officers. This full-time position plays a critical role in protecting life and property, enforcing laws, and maintaining public safety through proactive policing and community engagement.
Position Summary
Patrol Officers perform a wide range of law enforcement duties including patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, and emergency response. Officers are expected to exercise sound judgment, act with integrity, and provide professional service to the community.
Key Responsibilities
Patrol assigned areas to deter crime and enforce laws
Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service
Investigate incidents, interview victims and witnesses, and collect evidence
Make arrests and prepare cases for prosecution
Prepare detailed reports and testify in court as needed
Conduct traffic enforcement and accident investigations
Provide emergency assistance, including first aid
Engage with the community to build trust and promote public safety
Operate police vehicles and equipment safely under various conditions
Work Environment
This position requires working rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather and potentially hazardous conditions.
Salary range: $57,242 – $93,995 (DOQ w/highly competitive benefits package, including a defined contribution pension benefit). Apply by 4 pm, Friday, May 22, 2026. Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Must meet Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)
Valid Michigan driver’s license (or ability to obtain before hire)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Ability to analyze situations and make sound decisions under pressure
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public
Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office applications
Ability to prepare accurate reports and maintain documentation
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities in emergency situations
Physical & Work Requirements
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks (standing, walking, lifting, running, etc.)
Must maintain physical and mental fitness for duty
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Willingness to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime
